Racing Season Hits the Homestretch

Racing for the 2011 season at Sandy Downs heads into the homestretch this Friday and Saturday with another weekend packed with quarter horse and thoroughbred racing, family fun and giveaways.  Gates open at 5 p.m. each day with post time for the first race at 6 p.m.  The first 100 paid admissions receive a free bet on the action both days.

Saturday, newcomers and experts to racing can increase their knowledge of quarter horse racing with the Q-Aces Seminar, a national program to educate fans on “America’s Fastest Sport.”  There’s live music both evenings with Kevin Young on Friday and Will, Amber & Smith performing on Saturday.  There will be a fun bounce, pony rides and face painting for the kids and a Happy Hour from 5pm to 6pm offering Free hot dogs for the kids and half price beer for the adults.  The big race of the weekend is Saturday’s AQHA Red Cell Distance Challenge.

Though racing concludes on Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30, fans attending the Q-Aces Racing Seminar can use what they learn to watch and wager on the races year round from Idabet.com, Idaho’s own online horse racing service.

The seminar will be hosted by Denis Blake, a former racing executive at numerous tracks as well as a writer for the Daily Racing Form.  He also has served as Racing Information Manager for the American Quarter Horse Association, Field Editor for American Quarter Horse Racing Journal and Editor of The Texas Thoroughbred Magazine.  Blake will offer insight into racing and to assist fans with their questions about handicapping.

Sandy Downs closing weekend will be highlighted by the Hawthorne Futurity and Hadtobenuts Derby to crown the meet’s top 2 and 3 year old quarter horses.

Idabet.com features wagering on more than 350 racetracks worldwide with online or telephone betting, free video, cash rewards and fun promotions.  Racing fans from Idaho and across the country can sign up for free and play daily.
