Wilbur Woodbine’s selections for Saturday, Dec. 29
WOODBINE RACETRACK
12/29/2012
                                Saturday night “selectionsâ€
by Wilbur Woodbine
Race 1
#5 Windsong
Ingenius—tries here to double up after a 6-1
successful effort in the same class last Saturday night. 3 y/o altered son of Kadabra uses the option
of $35k claiming to fit here, as he exceeds the nw3 or $75k LT conditions of
the event.    Â
#8 Facing Justice—may
go post-ward as the public choice again as he did in a winning effort on 12/21. Team Noren/Oliver send him out looking for
his 7th score in 2012 in just his 13th LT start. He has been no worse than 4th in
his last 6 starts. Steady.   Â
#1 Brandon CS—was
also the public choice in his last effort, but could only reward those backers
who played him to show. Perhaps with a
better post, and having a race on this surface will help Jody to get a bigger
piece of the pie in this gathering.
#4 Goshen Seelster—invades
here from Rideau, where he started twice after having been laid-up since spring
racing at Mohawk. He’s been
inconsistent, showing us 6 victories in 16 starts, but no places and just one
show in the other 10 starts. Needs his
best.
Race 2
#1 Camaes Fellow—is
trackman Middleton’s choice here, and will be Wilbur’s as well. The talented young McNair serves conditioner
O’Sullivan over his dad’s starter, the #8 Hard to Mach. His handicapping will dictate our play here
for the win.
#8 Hard to Mach—might
have been the top choice here were it not for Doug McNair choosing off in favor
of the one above. Rick Zeron is
certainly a capable substitute, and we’ll probably back-up our win bet on the
rail horse with an exactor box with this one.
#2 I’m Feelin Good—has
raced in this same condition in his 2 most recent starts. He managed third place dough in each of them,
and with the favourable post position he’s drawn, I see no reason that he
should finish any lower here. Randy up
again.
#3 Reibercrombie—is
the trackman’s second choice, but the past 2 starts he offers were not nearly
as good as his winning effort in his 1st try after coming north from
Philadelphia and Yonkers. Team
Coleman/Zeron have made a boatload of cash in 2012.
Race 3
#3 Natural Forces—gets 2nd time
lasix here, and I’m banking on some improvement from how he trotted in his last
start on 12/17. He was off a month prior
to that one. His pilot, Paulie Mac, is a
pretty fair trot driver, and this animal does like to win, 14 of 25.
#4 Lakefield—goes out for the team of
Moreau/Filion, who have had just a phenomenal season in 2012. He managed a 4th place effort in
his last start, from the 10 post. If
Sylvain is able to spot him closer earlier, then he should grab a major
share.
#5 Traverse
Seelster—gets the third place call from
Wilbur. He hasn’t shown us much lately,
but he takes a major class plunge into this event. His usual pilot, Saftic, chose another in
here, but Jackie Mo is certainly a capable replacement. Use in exotics.
#6 Armbro Chronicle—is
a wily veteran of the trotting wars here on the WEG circuit. He managed to earn $100k in 2011, despite
only winning once in 26 events. This
year has been tougher on the aging gelding, but he should get a check with
these.
Race 4
#7 McCedes—tries
to double-up here for team McNair/O’Sullivan after winning pillar to post on
12/21. He rewarded his supporters with a
$14.30 mutuel then, but we probably will see him go to post as the public
choice tonight. I’m onboard anyway.
#9 Monte Cristo—drops
down into this event looking to increase his yearly bankroll over the $100k
mark tonight. The 2nd place
purse money would leave him just a hair shy.
He did win in his last try for tonight’s purse back on 11/17. Could do on his best.
#4 Stonebridge Wish—does
not fit the nw conditions of this event, but gets in as an optional $30k
claimer. He’s won 10 times each in both
2011/2012. To say he couldn’t win here,
with the success enjoyed this year by his connections, would be an error.
Â
#5 Odysseus
Bluechip—jumps a bit in class here, after finishing
2nd and 4th respectively in his last two, which were also
his first starts on lasix. Team
Baillargeon probably has higher hopes for him here than I’ve projected. I say a minor share at best.
Race 5
Â
#7 Ima Magician Too—lost
all chance last Saturday night with a gate break. He was highly considered by the public, who
bet him to 5-2. Prior to that, he
produced a pretty easy score in a lower class than tonight’s. Scott Young up here for dad, Robert.
#3 Midfield Magic—could
give us a “magic†exactor. He gets
Jackie Mo here, as his pilot last week, Waples, opted for another in here. This 3 y/o gelded son of Kadabra has earned
in excess of $100k this year, and could easily add to that total tonight.
#5 Duke of Donegal—shows
us breaks in 2 of his most recent 3 efforts.
We’re gonna let those slide, as they seem pretty much out of character
based on his other 13 starts. The
“Greek†will steer here for .303 conditioner Ferguson. A must use for exotics.
#1 House Money—gets
the 4th and final mention in this superfecta race, mainly due to his
advantageous post draw. I just could not
find a lot to like when reviewing the other 6 possibilities. Having Jug winning pilot, Scott Zeron aboard
is another plus.
Race 6
#9 Midnite Romp—was
off for over 6 months prior to his comeback start at Kawartha on 12/13. He followed that up with a tour of the
Woodbine oval on 12/22. He drops down
from the class he raced against then, and could be ready to score at a nice
mutual.
#1 Aled Hanover—is
another class dropper in this event. The
thing that bothers me most is the fact that his last start was 12/08. I don’t mind them missing a week, but two
makes me edgy. However, on his best, he
certainly fits in this gathering.
Dangerous.
#5 Pouvoir Duharas—tries
to double up here after a nice 5-1 score last week. Filion however, did not choose to stick with
him. So, .198 conditioner Cote, has
recruited young Billy Davis to guide him tonight. I can only see a minor share for him here.
#3 C Major Hanover—did
lure Sylvain from the one listed above for trainer Fellows. Don’t read much into that, as Fellows and
Filion often team together. It appears
that most of this 4 y/o Art Major geldings success has been at the “B†tracks
however.
Race 7
#4 High Noon—gets
the top call here for O’Sullivan and Jamieson.
He was highly successful during his 3 y/o campaign in 2011, banking over
$350K. He’s struggled in 2012, but tries
to double up after waking up last Saturday with a nice 1:53 flat score.
#9 Outrageous Art—shows
his work being done at “B†tracks in the 6 starts showing on the program,
courtesy of WEG. We players say thanks
for the free pp’s. This is a lackluster
group, and his credentials stack up as good or better than the rest.
#7 Blackbird
Singing—is an honest sort who usually gives a
pretty fair account of himself. He has
finished 2nd and 3rd respectively the past 2 starts,
against pretty much the same ilk. He
enjoys the services of the talented young McNair tonight.
#3 Flight Exec—shows
us a couple of fairly dismal efforts in his last 2 tries. However, those were against a much better
class of animals than what we see here.
Billy Davis will be the 5th different pilot for him for
conditioner Robinson in as many starts.
Race 8
#2 Rose Run Limo—drops
into this diagonal gaited event for owner, trainer, driver Rick Zeron. This 5 y/o altered son of Ohio sire Armbro
Laser is the class of the race. He shows
one jump in his last 6 starts, but recovered.
If he trots, he will win this.  Get
on.
#8 Go Go Red Marty—do
you like looking at qualifying lines? If
so, then this could be your guy. He made
his one pari-mutuel effort pretty good on 12/14, leading before coming up short
at the finish, 2nd by 3 ½.
Fast enough with a mark of 1:54.3 in 2012.
#7 Scary Good—makes
another drop in class here after twice drawing the 9 post, and trailing around
in 10th for over ¾ mile in both of them. He had enough late trot to finish 5th
and 7th respectively. Has
only found the winners circle once in 20 this year.
#9 Road Sense—Has
Scott Zeron to help her try to overcome the poor post draw she finds here. She has 8 wins in 36 starts, while finishing
4 times runner-up, with 3 shows. Her
affinity for cashing checks makes her a good superfecta proposition.
Race 9
#6 Simply Business—threw
in a clunker when last seen on 12/15. He
was the 95 cent public choice, and failed to mount any serious bid. We’re gonna forgive that due to the balance
of his 2012 resume, and give team Filion/Moreau a chance to amend.
#2 Sparky Mark—is
track handicapper Middleton’s selection, and seems suited to a favourite’s roll
in the feature event tonight. He has
banked over $200k in both 2011 and 2012.
Second last week to High Def Z Tam, who does not go back in here.
#4 Mystician—has
banked over 1.7 million in his 3 years racing.
If Gillis and the rest of his connections choose to allow him a 5 y/o
campaign in 2013 as opposed to stud duty, he’ll undoubtedly exceed the 2
million mark. He fits like a glove with
these.
#5 Mach Dreamer—won
this event 2 weeks back, and rested last week.
Conditioner Brethour, who sends them out at a .256 clip, uses Jackie and
Sylvain intermittently. As Filion went
with Wilbur’s top selection here, then Moiseyev will steer him tonight.
Race 10
#4 Sing for Me
George—was the easiest kind of winner last
Saturday night in this same class. This
lightly raced altered son of Bettors Delight makes only his 8th 2012
start tonight. The price will likely be
short, but that’s what you get when you play a lock.
#1 Grandkids Attack—was
last seen here at Woodbine on 10/29.
Since then, he’s competed at the “B†tracks. He has a 2 race win streak going via Flamboro
and Western Fair. His 1:51.4 record
taken earlier this year at Mohawk, points to his abilities.
#5 College Major—went
pillar to post on a Monday night card here on 12/17. He rises up in class here. He retains the services of Jamieson, who
steered then. He also sports a fast mark
this year, taken at Mohawk in 1:51.2. A
must use for exotic play.
#6 Sunday Poker—toiled
away in the US mid-west earlier in the year.
The gelded son of Indiana sire, Panspacificflight, is still owned by his
breeders, Stone and Pearson of the Hoosier state. He could easily be a major part of this
ticket on his best work.
Â
Race 11
#4 Superbowl Party—looks
kinda cheap to be a top selection here in the nightcap, but this event is not
filled with world-beaters. I guess I
like the fact that he does appear to like to win, 5 times in just 18
tries. When in doubt, go with the
younger animal.
#9 Spartacus Jim—is
on the opposite side of the coin from the one above. He’ll be making his 44th trip to
post in 2012 tonight. He has ground out
$70k so far by going 9-8-3 in those 43 efforts.
Seems like the kind of selection to look for in superfecta play.
#2 Hilarious Halo—returns
to Woodbine after making his last local start on 11/03. He tried once at Yonkers, and 3 times at
Philadelphia since, without success.
Middleton has made him the m/l choice for the formidable team of
Coleman/Zeron. Use.
#1
Onemorelastchance—raced this summer at the deeper,
slower surface that is Hazel Park. He
took 4 months off, and returned to the racing wars this month at Western
Fair. Guess I’m counting on the rail
post and Rick the Whip to get a piece.
MEADOWLANDS
RACETRACK
12/29/12
selections by “Mr. Ed says @ The Meadowlandsâ€
Race 1
#10
Bettor Win—sure
doesn’t like to win much, a very camera shy 3 for 46 LT. But, this group
could be to his liking, SOFT. He offers us an up and coming pilot in Callahan,
and a 13% winning conditioner with the switch to DiBartolo.  Take a
shot.
#8
Raymond J—seems
like the kind that most cappers could support. He’s won the most money of
all starters in here in 2012. He has recent race activity across the
Hudson River at Yonkers, and a good pilot in Ron Pierce. The likely
post-time favorite.
#6
Lucky Land—is
a paltry 1 for 25 this year, but has been 2nd three times, and 3rd
seven times. The 4 y/o altered son of Badlands Hanover has the support of
Ross Croghan as his conditioner, and the capable hands of Dan Dube to guide
him.
#9
Cheyenne Umberto—took
advantage of a blistering first half at Philadelphia in his last start to jet
out of 3rd past the half, and storm home to a daylight win by 14
plus lengths. Doubt he’ll enjoy the same type of trip from this post, so
4th is the rating tonight.
Race
2
#5
Fool of Ideas—drops
into this event after facing tougher recently in Philly. He also has the
services of one of the top 5 reinsmen in the country in Gingras, who shows a
win with him 3 back at Chester, the only start he drove him.  A solid
choice.
#2
Southern Sport—shows
us a decent qualifier on 12/20, and races for more money than he goes for
tonight on his past performances chart. Conditioner Harmon sends out 15%
winners. The aging Hall of Fame driver “Catmanâ€Â will sit the
bike.
#4
Upfront Ticket—has
the young Brandon Simpson as both trainer/driver. He has been to the
winner’s enclosure 6 times in 20 starts in 2012, including a win in his most
recent effort, 12/16 at Chester. Should be good enough to earn a nice
check here.
#9
Handsome Harry—looks
good enough to earn a 4th place mention with this gathering.
He has been racing in the Opens at Saratoga, but Bouchard will be hard pressed
to get him involved from this post. He’ll be looking to leave, or follow
the flow. Â
Race
3
#7 The Green Knight—gets
top call here. He is a first time lasix user tonight. He tossed in
a really snappy qualifier on 12/20, winning while getting the final panel in a
sharp 27.2. Conditioner Brett Crawford, who usually steers, gives Carlson
the reins.
#1 Big Red—is a
chewing gum, and also a popular cream soda. In this instance, he’s a
chestnut 3 y/o colt by the hot Ohio sire Feelin Friskie. His wars on the
Ohio bullrings are now a thing of the past. David Miller wins 15%, and
has the assignment.
#6
Fresh Dream—has
been idle since 11/02, or possibly would have gotten a higher rating. He
is another who competed in a qualifier on 12/20, here at The New M.
Conditioner Hart sends out 15% winners, and Pierce is a more than capable
pilot.
#4
Doomsday Hanover—is
trackman Zoccali’s morning line favorite selection. Yes, he has 21%
winning trainer Longobardi, and the “Bionic Man†to pilot, but has been off for
a month, without even a qualifier to freshen up. I’m going elsewhere in
this one.            Â
Race
4
#7
Northern Breakout—was
toiling away in the mid-west prior to a start at Philly on 12/16, when he made
a violent break as the 6-5 favorite. He now has the winning combo of team
Gingras/Burke to assist him to make amends for that.  Can do here.
#3
Gaelic Thunder—is
the morning line choice in this event. 15% conditioner John McDermott
loses Gingras to the one above, but finds a fine replacement in David
Miller. The early foot he possesses should get him a good journey
here. A must use.    Â
#6
Feelin Cornered—is
another son of Ohio sire Feelin Friskie, albeit an altered one. He owns a
steady record of 7-9-3 in just 24 starts this year. Young Joe Bongorno
gets the call from conditioner Flynn again here. 10-1 m/l could aid a
nice exotic payout.
#8
Evergreen Power—is
a lightly raced, gelded offspring of the Maryland sire Capitol Power. 17%
winning conditioner Harder has selected Tetrick to steer, and on his best,
could exceed the rating I’ve given him. Don’t leave him out of your
exotic
strings.
Race
5
Â
#9
R Caan—seems
to be a deserving m/l favorite here. Team Burke/Gingras have made a ton
of money in 2012, and could easily experience a few winner’s enclosure
appearances tonight. Yannick will gun him out from this post, and he
should prevail.
#8
So Take That—tossed
up a dismal performance in his last at Yonkers. He had the rail, left
slowly, and backed up when pulled out. But, the competition here is much
weaker than the grouping that night. You might try a “cold†exacta as
your 1st exotic.
#5
Lettherockbegin—has
finished 3rd in all of his last 3 starts at Chester. So,
that’s the projection he’ll get here from Mr. Ed. The 4 y/o son of
Rocknroll Hanover has ground out $46k in 36 starts with a record of
3-5-5. Would seem to be a must play in exotics.
#2
Tireman—gets
the call to complete the superfecta here. He’s competed mainly at
Saratoga for the past several months, with a couple of Yonkers starts thrown in
for good measure. Having Tetrick aboard for trainer 19% winning trainer
Rohr should help out.
Race
6
#7
River Shark—
goes for team Ford/MacDonald here, looking to improve on his 2012 resume of
11-7-7 in 46 events. The 6 y/o Four Starzz Shark gelding could shove his
yearly bankroll to over $275k with a win in this event. He’s a confident
top selection.
#6
Western Shore—has
been off since August, except for a cakewalk qualifying win in 1.52.2 here on
12/20. He has always been a front-end specialist, and tonight should be
no different. Thinking here is that his class will show up when the fight
starts.
#2
Southwestern Dream—is
another one who enjoys racing on the top. I’m thinking that the one
listed above is just a bit more determined in that respect. I wouldn’t be
surprised if pilot Carlson tries to find a good cover trip from Western Shore
in the hole.
#8
Hillbilly Hanover—is
a 3 y/o who has danced in most all of the most recent dances for 3 y/o colts
and geldings. Team Burke/Gingras will be looking to try and defeat older
competition here tonight. Ed says the older animals will prevail
here.
Â
Race
7
#9
Musselsfrmbrussels—fired
up a nice win in 1:50.2 at Woodbine, two races back. He was shipped to
the Allard barn after that, and had troubles negotiating the turns at Yonkers
on 12/08. He’ll find the East Rutherford oval more to his liking.  Get
on.
#5
Electrofire—is
the morning line favorite as assigned here by Zoccali. He moves into the
Coleman barn after the claim at Yonkers in his last start on 12/17. He’s
been ITM over half his starts in 2012. 10-5-6 in 37 times out. A
must use in exotics.
#2
Four Starz Trace—is
yet another selection tonight to go for team Burke/Gingras. He’s managed
to win in excess of $100k in each of the past two campaigns. If you
intend to go deep in your late pick 4, then Ed says this guy belongs in your
string.
#10
Silver Eagle—comes
down from the WEG circuit for Remmen, leaving the successful barn of Ben
Wallace up there. He took a mark of 1:49.4 earlier this season at
Mohawk. That kind of speed cannot be ignored, and he is a must use in
your exotics.
Race
8
#5 Trend Spotter—gets first call in this B-1
classification. Yes, once again, it’s team Burke/Gingras. Ed says
these two fellas will bring home a lot of loot this evening. This 5 y/o
Artsplace gelding fits like a glove in this gathering. Hoping for a tolerable
mutuel.
#7
Rescue Plan—goes
for Poliseno and Tetrick here after racing exclusively at Philly for the past 3
months. He has only won 3 times in 36 tries, but has posted 11 runner-up
finishes to go along with 6 shows. He could add some value to your exotic
plays.
#8
Mr Dennis—is
the 3 y/o gelded Dragon Again entry for Erv Miller and young pilot Lewayne
Miller. Lewayne has driven him in his most recent 4 starts at Philly,
while winning his most prior start on 12/16. Andy chose to drive another
in here. No matter.
#9
Flem N Em N—gets
the nod to complete the dime super here. Pierce gets the driving
assignment for 12% winning conditioner Fraley. Since coming down from
Canada in October, he has done his share of damage at both Yonkers and
Philadelphia. Use.
Race
9
#6
Mortal Zin—is
it getting tiresome to read that team Burke/Gingras will take down another win
in the events scheduled in East Rutherford tonight? Well, this guy comes
off a win at the Meadows on 12/18, and seems destined to double-up in this A-2
class.
#4
A Sweet Ride—was
claimed away from Burke 2 starts back at Yonkers for $75k. Owner/trainer
Cito plunked down the cash, and has had the “Catman†aboard in both starts
since then. Cat is up again tonight, and could challenge the one above
for win.
#5
Voice of Truth—is
another who has been doing most all his work at Philly recently. The
results have been from Good, to Bad, to Ugly. Maybe conditioner Magie
and/or pilot David Miller know what we’ll see tonight. Ed, for one, isn’t
clear at all about that.
#9
Famous Western—gets
the call to complete the dime super here. He has enjoyed all inside posts
in all 10 of his most recent efforts, all on the Hilltop at Yonkers. This
early in the meet, with horses coming in from all over, promotes a lot of
indecision.
Race
10
#8
Dinner Guest—raced
very well here at the Big M earlier in the year. Pilot Dube and trainer
Allard will probably enjoy racing him on the larger surface here, even though
he fared quite well in recent starts across the Hudson River at Yonkers.
Top pick.
#4
Ethan Hanover—OK,
yes again Ed says that team Burke/Gingras have a big chance for a huge night at
the Meadowlands. This animal won his last start at Philly in an easy
fashion on 12/14. No reason to think he won’t be every part of this
event.
#9
Fat Mans Alley—is
a 4 y/o altered son of Rocknroll Hanover, whom trackman Zoccali has assigned
8-1 m/l odds. Ed says he may well outrace those odds for Fraley and
Tetrick here. A 2012 record of 5-6-3 in 31 efforts seems ok here by
comparison.
#3
Sonic Raider—has
been popular in the claiming box for the past couple of months. At this
point, he’s in the care of trainer/driver Brandon Simpson. The 7 y/o
Keystone Raider gelding gets lots of checks, explaining why the action has
occurred.
Race
11
#9
Brookstone—are
y’all sick yet of the selections of team Burke/Gingras? Well, this is a
recent addition to the barn, with a month in between his 2 trainer
changes. Thinking here is that he’ll double-up after scoring the easy win
at Yonkers on 12/18.
#4
Vodka is Terror—goes
for 4 in a row tonight after 2 scores at Saratoga, followed by another at
Yonkers on 12/11. 19% winning trainer Rohr once again has seated Tetrick
behind him for tonight’s encounter. An exacta box with the one above
works. Â
#3
Shaw Creek Buff—hasn’t
raced in a betting event since 11/12 at Woodbine. He qualified at Mohawk
on 12/13. Zoccali has made him the morning line favorite, but Ed cannot
endorse him on such a stale date. Perhaps he’s enough to overcome it.
#2
Nathan Feelsgood—is
another who’s been away a long time. Last start other than qualifiers was
in August. The talent he displayed earlier in the year was at least
sufficient to get him the 4th and final mention here. A minor
share at best.
Â
Â
Â
Race 12
#1
Buckeye in Charge—should
be very competitive in this low-end claimer. Even though he’s just 2 for
35 in the win column in 2012, he’s rarely faced a group as soft as this
one. Carlson knows this animal well, having driven him in his last 5
starts.
#3
Prestissimo—will
present us with a pretty good chance at a low paying exacta, as he opens at
3-1, while our top selection opens at 7-2. Well, as they say, “it is what
it isâ€. The others just don’t seem to match up to the credentials of the
top two here.
#7
General Montgomery—won
his last start at Chester against what appears to be a pretty weak group.
But, so is this one. Ed would not be afraid to toss him in between the
two listed above when stringing together some dime superfectas. Pierce
steers.
#4
Justin Art—gets
the call to complete the super. He’s not as cheap as some of the others
in here, and has at least showed us some recent form, finishing 2nd
at Yonkers in his last start. I’m not really wild about this gathering,
and no outcome would surprise.
