PICK 6 CARRYOVER OF $71,789 UP FOR GRABS FRIDAY AT SANTA ANITA

There were no winning tickets in the $2 Pick Six at Santa Anita Sunday generating a carryover of $71,789 for Friday’s nine-race card at The Great Race Place. Track officials estimate the pool will exceed $500,000.

            Helping to trigger the carryover was Harris Farms’ homebred Wink And a Grin in the seventh race. Off as the longest shot in the field at 45-1, Wink And a Grin got up in the final jump to win by a head under Assael Espinoza and paid $93. The 3-year-old California-bred filly by Smiling Tiger was making her second start for trainer Carla Gaines.

There were two winning favorites in the Pick Six sequence. The first was Wegonahavagoodtime, who paid $4 when winning the fourth race under apprentice Welfin Orantes for trainer Genaro Vallejo. The other winning favorite was King of Clubs, trained by Mark Glatt and ridden by Flavien Prat, who scored in the fifth race and paid $2.80.   

            The consolation payout Sunday for tickets with 5-of-6 winners was $517.40.

            The winning horses in Sunday’s Pick Six beginning with the fourth race were #6 Wegonahavagoodtime ($4), #3 King of Clubs ($2.80), #1 Spun Not Stirred ($12.20), #8 Wink and a Grin ($93), #5 Big Pop ($6.60), and #5 Simplexity ($13.80).

           First post Friday is 1 p.m. PT, with the Pick Six starting in the fourth race at approximately 2:30 p.m. PT.
