SunRay Park live racing season begins Saturday, April 21
33 day-meet boasts over $4 million in purses
The 2018 live racing season at SunRay Park and Casino begins at Saturday, April 21. The attractive 33-day meet in the Four Corners region of Farmington, New Mexico offers over $4 million in purses. The spring time campaign presents live racing cards on primarily a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday basis.
The fan friendly meet spans through Sunday, June 17. Post times on Fridays and Mondays are 3 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. Racing on Saturdays and Sundays starts at 1:15 p.m. “Freaky Fast Fridays” will be composed of all Quarter Horse cards. Saturdays and Sunday will offer both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse action. Mondays will serve up all Thoroughbred programs.
Each year, SunRay Park and Casino presents top flight Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing action. Fans are also treated to over 400 slot machines in the casino and simulcast wagering from the nation’s top tracks in the luxurious Sportz Arena restaurant.
The $25,000 Inaugural Handicap at six and one-half furlongs sparks the new meet on Saturday, April 21. The $25,000 Animas Quarter Horse Stakes at 400 yards will be contested on Sunday, April 22. The $40,000 Foutz Distaff at six and one-half furlongs. highlights the first Monday card on April 23.
World class two-year-old Quarter Horses are attracted to both the $100,000 estimated New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity on Sunday, May 13 and the $100,000 estimated Four Corners Futurity on Sunday, June 17.
Some of the best Thoroughbreds in the state will be running in the $40,000 Jack Cole handicap at one mile on Monday, May 7, the $40,000 Dine Stakes at six and one-half furlongs on Monday, June 4 and the $45,000 San Juan County Commissioners’ Handicap at one and one-eighth miles on Sunday, June 17.
Ample racing opportunities will be available. Over 1,400 horses applied for stall space for the upcoming season. Sunland Derby (Gr. III) winning trainer Todd Fincher, Henry Dominguez, Justin Evans and Joel Marr consistently have a presence at SunRay Park. Elite riders like Tracy Hebert, Alfredo Juarez, Jr. and Alejandro Medellin are also expected to compete.
A 20 percent purse bonus will be added to all overnight Thoroughbred races which have 8 starters or more.
The 50 cent Super Hi5 wager or Pentafecta will be offered daily and comes with the 100 percent carryover option when unsolved.
