Opening Night Set for 2018 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season

 The Remington Park racing office compiled entries for the Opening Night of the 2018 Thoroughbred Season this morning. The first night of 67 dates is this Friday, Aug. 24 with nine races, featuring the $100,000 Remington Green at 1-1/8 miles over turf.

Horsemen and their athletes are ready to compete as 108 horses were entered in the nine-race Opening Night program. An average field size of 12 per race was achieved with the entries.

The season’s first race is at 7pm-Central, as 11 Oklahoma-bred Maiden-Claimers ($7,500-level) are entered to sprint 5-1/2 furlongs.

The $100,000 Remington Green headlines the program in race eight with an approximate post time of 10:16pm. Turbo Street (AUS), the 2017 winner of the Green, is back to defend his crown in the race. Owned by Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla. and trained by National Racing Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, Turbo Street will be ridden by David Cabrera.

The total purses for Remington Park’s Opening Night program on Friday stand at $239,600.

The Primetime Pick 4 on Opening Night will feature a $40,000 guaranteed wagering pool. The pick 4 has a minimum 50-cent wager and takes place on races six thru nine, beginning at 9:20pm.

Remington Park will greet fans Friday with a Mystery Money Mania promotion as thousands in cash prizes will be given away on-track in a variety of ways. All guests are strongly encouraged to register for the promotion in the Racing Entrance lobby upon arrival for the evening.

Bigger Money Bingo will also be played on Opening Night. Guests can compete for free on their smartphones at RPBingo.net. Over $1,500 in prize money is available to win.

Opening Weekend at Remington Park will continue Saturday, Aug. 25 with the annual “Remington Bark” promotion. Guests may bring their dogs to the races as “Remington Bark” takes place on the track plaza, starting at 6pm. There will be dog costume contests, exhibition dog races and more, benefitting many central Oklahoma dog rescue organizations. All dogs must be on a leash and on their best behavior. The first Thoroughbred race on Saturday is at 7pm.
