Race 1: Ambitious Dragon Handicap 

#7 Looking Great slots in light. Suspect he’s still on the improve and his handicap here has him favoured. He draws well, steps out for the in-form Frankie Lor and shapes as the one to beat. #5 Enjoying is desperately overdue for a win in Hong Kong. Expect he rolls forward and tries to make all here. #4 Berlin Tango falls into a similar category. Zac Purton’s booking commands respect. #1 Charity Go can do no wrong of late. He’s after back-to-back wins, which looks gettable here.  

Race 2: Gold-Fun Handicap 

#5 Cheery moved well in his latest trial. He looks to have a touch of class early on and he just might be ready to win first-up in Hong Kong. He’s worth taking a chance on. #2 Street Scream is racing...

Meydan Overview & Selections – Week 6:

Lord Glitters was a winner here last week on the Dubai International Carnival blog and I have five selections this week across the six-race card. The action is a bit low key compared to previous weeks but still provides competitive action and some good opportunities to find a winner.

The dirt track did not perform to type last week, it was deep and slow and suited closers rather than front-runners. This is unusual, but it would pay to tread carefully with the dirt races this week, bearing in mind that the pace bias may well return.

9:00am (ET) Meydan: Desert Safari

I am taking a chance on this horse from the Salem Bin Ghadayer yard despite his wide draw in stall 10. Essentially, he is a speedy horse who looks sure to be ridden aggressively, he is likely to lead and if the track has returned to type may be capable of making all. His UK form is certainly good enough to win a race of this type. He boasts a very good second place last season at Ascot in a Class 2 handicap off a mark of 95. He seemed to handle the dirt on his first Meydan start where he showed bright speed before weakening in the straight as if needing the run. He will be much better for that effort and with the best gate jockey in Dubai in the form of Mikael Barzalona I expect him to jump quickly and lead this field all the way to the wire.

9:35am (ET) Meydan: Silent Speech

I see no reason why this horse cannot back up his recent success over course and distance. He is a lightly raced Dubawi with only three starts to his name, two of which he has won. He looks certain to improve, yet to win this he will just have to repeat his effort last time out. He travelled strongly in that race and from off the pace hit the line strongly to win going away. Race 1: Walnut Handicap 

#6 Viva Chef appeals in the opener. He’s returned to a competitive mark and his pairing with Karis Teetan commands respect. Expect a big run. #12 Raging Blaze is closing in on a first win. He does a fair bit wrong, but he can be a factor here with no weight and Zac Purton engaged. #3 Red Brick Glory has claims. He caught the eye from the rear of the field last start. #5 Sure Winner is improving. He was sound first-up and is expected to take another step forward here.  

Race 2: Fountain Palm Handicap 

#4 Exceptional Nice gets another chance here. He’s nothing short of consistent and is most deserving of a first win here. Strong booking of Zac Purton signals intent from the stable. #3 Above is after back-to-back wins over this course and distance. He’s a threat over these trips, especially as a six-time winner in Hong Kong. #8 Blastoise slots in light. He steps away...
