TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY 7
Race 1: 3- Mel Rose Dunn – Finished second in her most recent races; looks to win against tonight’s competition to start the Daily Dou-
ble. 4- Smartie Partie – Could do well upon coming to Northfield. 1- Anastasia Gem – Could make the ticket in here from the rail. 6- Le
Tissier – Could grab a piece of the action if he minds his manners.
Race 2: 6- Pembroke Morgan – Was a winner last time out and looks to strike again tonight to start the Pick 5. 1- Chad – Could be a solid
contender in here from the rail. 2- Sebiskit Bluegrass – Draws well and could add value to the ticket.
Race 3: 1- Kirty Dream – Looks to be the best in here; but must mind his manners to be successful. 3- Speed Lane – Drops in class and
is another in here that has a big shot. 5- Wendys Girl – Could add value to the ticket. 6- Emerald Chip – Could add further value to the
exotics.
Race 4: 4- You Got Trumped – Could be successful upon coming to Northfield. 2- Headforthebeach – Made the ticket last time out and
looks to be right there again tonight. 1- Keystone Memphis – Looks to be a solid contender in here from the rail. 6- Four Diamonds – Has
as good of a shot as any in here to complete the Superfecta.
Race 5: 1- Bend In The River – Looks to flow home a winner in here. 4- Mainstreet Party – Was a winner last time out and could do well
again despite facing tougher. 2- Mesmerized – Draws well and should get a good trip in here. 7- Lion Image – Could grab a piece of the
action despite starting from the far outside.
Race 6: 3- Ucan Wait And See – Won two...
Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players:
3 RD RACE – (5) DREAMZZZZ R FOR U was a useful claimer upstate and
finds a spongy soft group here. Would not be surprised if leavin’ from this venue.
4 TH RACE – (7) WATKINS is as functional as any in here, having finished
behind rival (No. 2 here) in last. Going this direction for perceived bad-post price.
6 TH RACE – (2) AUDI BAYAMA tries it from north of border, favored last
three, beaten last couple. Was in for tag there, draws basically ‘iffy’ condition foes.
7 TH RACE – (1) TAMMYSMIST makes a 166 th career start, first time here.
One of five in field whose latest try was elsewhere, pole off decent Pompano tries.
8 TH RACE – (2) CHARLIE ONA HARLEY turned in a season and life-best
effort here in ‘19. Part of hard-nosed octet that made total of 265 starts last season.
12 TH RACE – (4) AZURE SEELSTER arrives for a first local/first stateside
try outside of Florida. Offered some Canadian competence, so tepid gaze in finale.

Meydan Overview & Selections – Week 1:
The return of the Dubai International Carnival this Thursday has put a real spring in my step and I am looking forward to covering every Carnival race leading up to the Dubai World Cup itself at the end of March .
The domestic season in the UAE is already well underway and those fixtures have provided some very competitive dirt action . It appears to me that most local trainers have looked to recruit proper dirt bred horses and this will make for some competitive fare. In years gone by it was easy to identify horses who should not be racing on the dirt and thus narrow down the potential number of live players . With trainers becoming a lot wiser as to what is required to win on the dirt at Meydan that narrowing down process has become much tougher . It will make for some fantastic action which this week is headed up by the 6 furlong Dubawi Stakes where last year’s winner Drafted heads a decent field.
As there will be most weeks, four selections for you.
9.30am Meydan – Final Song
With a mark of 103 this filly already sets a decent standard in a division that tends to be notoriously weak. She won on her debut at Ascot and thereafter kept very good company running in two Group two contests and one Group three. She acquitted herself well albeit a little outclassed in those contests and now effectively steps down in grade trying the dirt for the first time. This begs the question as to whether she will handle the surface ? A classy and fast pedigree only gives a modicum of hope that a dirt surface will suit but what encourages me is her style of racing . She has a lot of speed and that is crucial on dirt . She made all to win at Ascot on debut and in her other starts showed a high cruising speed. This is an important quality when it comes to dirt racing and should enable her to adopt a handy position out of the kickback. Stall 11 is not an...
