5TH RACE – (1) GO COLLECT N has been ‘eh’ of late after extended form spree. Wins draw, claimed from last, leaves claimers, thus getting tepid shot here.  

6TH RACE – (3) LONG LIVE ROCK was four-eyeballed in series event last week, only to be horribly-placed behind horrid fave. Good second, so repeat gaze.

11TH RACE – (5) FASHION CREDITOR tried it first-up into soft half adult trot last week. That didn’t go well, but gets away from better foes this time around.

BROWN ARRIVES FOR ACTION-PACKED OPENING WEEKEND

Chad Brown, coming off two consecutive years that earned him the Eclipse Award as outstanding trainer, was at Keeneland for the first time this season Friday morning to oversee the training of his stable that includes champion and Toyota Blue Grass (G2) 2-1 morning-line favorite Good Magic.

“The horse looks great,” Brown said about the Curlin colt, who races for e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables. “He’s very healthy, traveling really well over the track. We feel he’s a fitter, stronger horse the second start of the year, so we’re cautiously optimistic that he’ll run a really good race tomorrow.”

The $1 million Toyota Blue Grass will be the second race of the year for Good Magic, who was third in the March 3 Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream Park. He drew post 11 in the 14-horse field for tomorrow’s 1 1/8-mile race.

“Not ideal, but it’s the luck of the draw,” Brown said about the post for the $1 million Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase. “He’s a very talented horse; hopefully, he’ll overcome that and work out a good trip.”

On Friday about 9:15 a.m., Good Magic visited the Paddock and galloped on the main track for the second consecutive morning.

Good Magic is among the 10 horses Brown has entered this weekend at Keeneland. His stakes action begins today with William H. Lawrence’s Analyze It, who is making his 2018 debut in the Kentucky Utilities Transylvania (G3).

7TH RACE – (2) LAKEISHA HALL became our favorite female a week ago, winning last week’s series leg as a pocketed 6-1. Poised for another useful sojourn.

10TH RACE – (6) GLENFERRIE BRONTE N left town having won three of last four locally. Grass not greener upstate, lass returns to site of down-road effort.

Keeneland Adjusts Spring Meet Opening Saturday Schedule In Preparation for Race-Day Afternoon

 Due to the threat of inclement weather, Keeneland is adjusting the morning schedule for its Spring Meet opening Saturday, April 7, to allow more time to prepare the facility for the afternoon’s race card. Keeneland will cancel Sunrise Trackside, its morning program for fans held during training hours. Additionally, gates will open Saturday at noon rather than the usual 11 a.m. ET. Post time for the first race is 1:05 p.m.

“This change gives our race track and grounds crews extra time to get ready for the race day in the event of inclement weather,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “It also enables our fans, especially those traveling from out of town, to plan their day at Keeneland.”

Keeneland had earlier announced that The Hill, the official tailgating lot, will be closed Saturday.

Keeneland kicks off its 2018 Spring Meet on Friday, April 6, with a full day of racing highlighted by the $150,000 Kentucky Utilities Transylvania (G3) and College Scholarship Day, during which a record $30,000 in scholarships will be given away to registered college students.

Saturday’s race card offers 11 races, five of which are graded stakes, headlined by the $1 million Toyota Blue Grass (G2) and $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1), major preps on the 2018 Roads to the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1).
