Reliance Ranches’ talented juvenile contingent was on display on Tuesday morning at Los Alamitos, as six of their 14 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity eligible runners posted gate works at 220 yards.
Reliance Ranches’ Conquering Marie and SC Coronada shared the honors of having the morning’s fastest times, as they each posted a :12.20 clocking. In her first work back on March 6, SC Coronada posted the bullet work of :12.3 at 220 yards. On this morning, the filly by Coronado Cartel broke sharply from the inside post with Conquering Marie working right alongside of her as part of a three horse set. Jockey Jesus Rios Ayala sat cool aboard SC Coronada the entire way, while Conquering Marie was asked once by her exercise rider and she was first across the wire by a nose over SC Coronada. Conquering Marie’s :12.2 work on Tuesday follows the :12.5 clocking she posted on March 6.
Bred in Oklahoma SC Coronada is out of the champion aged mare Spit Curl Diva, a multiple graded stakes winner of $829,353 in her career. Spit Curl Diva was a 12-time stakes winner in her career with her top wins being the Grade 1 Refrigerator Handicap and Grade 1 AQHA Distaff Challenge in 2010. Spit Curl Diva is the dam of multiple stakes winners SC Vapor Trail (by Corona Cartel) and Stevie B First Cash (by First Down Dash). SC Vapor Trail won the John Deere California Juvenile and qualified to the Ed Burke Million Futurity here last year, while Stevie B First Cash won the Town Policy Handicap and First Down Dash Handicap at Los Alamitos and is a multiple Grade 1 stakes placed runner.
