We wanted our IdaBet.com players to know that Land of Enchantment, New Mexico Cup Days Lead 2016 Zia Park Stakes Schedule.
Thanks for choosing IdaBet.com and for supporting Zia Park in 2016!
The fourth Land of Enchantment card and New Mexico Cup day highlight Zia Park’s 2016 stakes schedule that, all told, includes 32 races for both thoroughbreds and quarter horses totaling $3,850,000 in purses. Zia’s 56-day meet will get underway on September 10 and run through December 13.
The Land of Enchantment day on November 23 will again serve as the centerpiece of the Zia Park meet and is led by the fourth running of the $300,000 Zia Park Oaks for three-year-old fillies run at 1 1/16 miles. West Point Thoroughbred’s Lavender Chrissie won the 2015 edition of the Zia Park Oaks, which came on the heels of Fox Hill Farm’s Cassatt’s triumph in 2014. The $200,000 Zia Park Derby and $150,000 Zia Park Championship round out the six-figure unrestricted stakes for thoroughbreds. A trio of quarter horse races, including the $150,000 Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship (G1) and $140,000 New Mexico Quarter Horse Filly & Mare Championship (RG1) will also be run on Land of Enchantment day once again.
While the Zia Park Oaks and Zia Park Derby may lure some of the country’s top sophomores to the track on November 23, the richest racing on the Zia Park schedule will be October 30 with the New Mexico Cup lineup featuring the top New Mexico-breds in training. With $1,810,000 in total purses, the 12 stakes on New Mexico Cup day represents nearly half the monetary value of the meet’s stakes calendar. The 8 thoroughbred stakes are headlined by the $180,000 New Mexico Classic Rocky Gulch Championship, while the $170,000 New Mexico Classic Quarter Horse Championship (RGI) leads the 4 quarter horse stakes.
