Idaho’s connection – California Chrome returns Saturday

IdaBet.com has a special fondness (as do most) for this 2014 American Horse of the Year. Bred in California, Chrome has some Idaho roots (sired by Lucky Pulpit). Chrome will make his return to the races on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 in the Grade 2 $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes. With expected rain in the area California Chrome could make his comeback on a sloppy surface. All races on the Santa Anita card will be on the main track.

California Chrome hasn’t been seen at the races since finishing a good second in the Dubai World Cup last March. He got back with a work in November and turned in a very impressive drill last Saturday at Santa Anita. With Trainer Art Sherman in charge, and Chrome coming off extended layoffs, he will likely take a lot of money at the windows, so looking for alternatives might be a good move.

Portland Meadows – For Monday, January 11 – Rainbow 6 now $0.20 Base Wager

For you Portland Meadow fans at IdaBet.com, it is our pleasure to share information on the Rainbow 6 wager. Portland Meadows will be running a special 15-race program on Monday, January 11, 2016. The card kicks off at 12:00 p.m. (Pacific) with 4 QH races followed by 11 Thoroughbred races.

The 15 race program will include a $100,000 Jackpot Guaranteed $0.20 Rainbow Pick 6 on races 10-15, which are all legs of the National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes run at 2 furlongs. The takeout on the Rainbow 6 is 22.00%. If there is no single unique wager winner, 60% will be paid to multiple winners or wagers with the most winners and 40% will be carried over to the next day(s) it is offered, which will be on Tuesday, January 19th; Monday, January 25th; Monday, February 1; and Monday, February 8 (mandatory payout). Portland Meadows will determine if there will be guaranteed pools offered on the other days should the Jackpot be hit on Monday, January 11.

Also part of the wagering format: Two $0.20 15% takeout Pick 5 wagers starting on races 5 & 11 AND Two 14% takeout Pick 4 wagers starting on races 6 and 12.
