Northfield Park Selections for Feb 23rd

Race 1: 1- Beer League – Draws the rail and gets the top-call to take tonight’s opener. 2- Broadway Bound – Was a winner last time out and could do well again tonight. 9- Muscle On Broadway – Should get a good trip from the second tier. 5- Pembroke Popeye – Could do well in here if he minds his manners.

Race 2: 5- MT Ur Pockets – Drops in class and looks to be the best in here. 3- Vacation Angel – Another class dropper that could do well in here. 7- IM – Could make the ticket despite the poor post draw. 4- Jestabrute – Could add some value to the exotics.

Race 3: 6- Fixthedeficit – Drops in class and should be successful at this level of competition. 9- Martin Hanover – Should get a good trip from the second tier. 2- Rock N Roll Star – Should not be overlooked as a potential competitor in here.

We thought our IdaBet.com players who love Pompano would want to know that Goldstar Classic and Pocket Trip took their respective divisions of Pompano Park’s duet of $10,000 trotting features on Monday night (February 22).

 Goldstar Classic was superbly handled by Hall of Famer Wally Hennessey as this six year-old gelded son of Classic Photo scored a gate-to-wire win in 1:56.3 measuring three-parts-of-a-length over the late charging Diamond Dagger, driven by Mark O’Mara. McKenzie’s Star, prominent throughout the journey, finished third, a length away, while Pointe Of Inquiry edged Highland Yankee for the fourth spot in the closely knit field of seven separated by less than three lengths at the finish.

Goldstar Classic

Indeed, Hennessey sent Goldstar Classic bursting out of the gate and into the lead through an opener of :28.1 with Highland Yankee second, Gold Savage next and McKenzie’s Star fourth.

 Pointe of Inquiry was fifth at this juncture followed by Majestic Won with the 3 to 5 tote-board favorite, Diamond Dagger, lolly-gagging at the back of the pack.
