Race 1: Bonham Handicap

7 Run Run Good has shown he is capable and he could well use the inside gate to his advantage by pushing forward. Expect he does so and he might just prove too good for them here. #2 Quorum ran out of running room late last start. He can improve off that effort and Class 5 is clearly his go. He’s worth supporting also. #9 Medic Elite is doing everything right and gets his chance once more. He’ll give them a head start but watch for him late. #8 London Luckystar should get a sweet run from the draw. He has claims.

Race 2: Bridges Handicap (2nd Section)

4 Spicy Grill is racing well and appears to be taking the right steps towards another win. Pierre Ng is doing very, very well this season and this horse can add to his already impressive tally. #3 Copartner Era should improve sharply with a return to Happy Valley. The added distance will do him a world of good, especially with Vincent Ho up now. #1 Exuberant has claims and knows what to do in this grade. He steps up in distance but his consistency holds him in good stead. #6 Rainbow Light will get every opportunity.

Race 3: Bridges Handicap (1st...

Closers cash in triple trots at Plainridge Park

Closers cash in triple trots at Plainridge Park

Nov 4, 2022

Thursday afternoon (Nov. 3) at Plainridge Park featured a trio of trots that went for $17,500 each and the winners of all three came late from off the pace.

The fastest of the three was won by Marquis Lafayette (Bruce Ranger) who got away fifth behind changing leads by Vesuvio Bi (Brett Beckwith) and Remember Titans (Jay Randall). Still third and two lengths off the leader at the top of the stretch, Marquis Lafayette rallied late with a :28.4 final quarter to win by 1-½ lengths in 1:55.

Marquis Lafayette ($4.40) is trained by Domenico Cecere for owner Greathorse.

Then, recent Canadian import Mrmayor Hanover (Jay Randall) sat in the garden spot behind the front-running Wily Wally (Jim Hardy) through quarters of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:25.4 before popping out in the stretch and out-trotting the leader home to win by one length in 1:56.4.

It was the seventh win of the year for Mrmayor Hanover ($3.80) but his first win for new owners Marc Reynolds and Richard Cortese, who purchased the 3-year-old stakes winner on October 17. Jimmy Nickerson is the winning trainer.

Finally Sidd Finch (Mike Stevenson) was sixth and seemingly out of it at three-quarters while Flying Formation (Jay Randall) and Billy B (Wally Watson) were battling on the point for what seemed to be who would win. But Stevenson put Sidd Finch in play around the last turn and unleashed a wicked stretch drive that garnered him an easy 2-¼ length victory in 1:56, which was a new seasonal mark.

Sidd Finch ($6.40) is owned by John Barnard and is trained by Irwin Rosenthal.

Stevenson had two wins on Thursday along with fellow driver Bruce Ranger while 10 different trainers each claimed one race apiece during the proceedings.

Race 1: L’Oreal Paris Handicap

6 Iron King was dominant when winning first-up last season by over three lengths. He’s back in Class 5 now and shapes as the one to beat as long as he can offset the wide gate. #8 Moon Peaks has form but needs to race in this grade. He’s done well at Conghua – catching the eye in a recent trial on the turf. He’ll take running down. #3 Smart Leader is having his fourth run back. He’s done well and should appreciate the step down to this grade. #2 Telecom Missile will also welcome racing in Class 5. Keep safe.

Race 2: Grace One Handicap

3 Noble One is racing well and caught the eye last start flashing from the tail of the field. He draws favourably here and does have a bit of a class-edge on a number of these, especially as he has always shown a bit of potential. #5 Packing Goodsing makes his debut. He’s done well ahead of his first-up run in Hong Kong. #1 War Weapon can turn his form around. He’s better than what he showed first-up when fading to ninth. #6 Trust Me looks to get his...
