Race 1: Yue Wan Handicap

#6 Lucky Missile arguably should have won two starts ago. Even still, he’s holding his condition well and rates as the one to beat here under Joao Moreira. #4 Telecom Cheetah caught the eye in his latest trial. Zac Purton hops up and he should improve for his second run in Class 5 this term. #1 Agility Star makes the class drop. He draws well and can turn his form around. #7 Owners’ Star has claims in this grade. Don’t discount, although the wide gate makes things tricky.

Race 2: Yiu Tung Handicap

#9 Regency Poet looks to have improved since joining Benno Yung’s yard who, this season, has done extremely well with stable transfers. The wide draw makes it tough but he’s on an upward trajectory and, there are no world beaters amongst this lot. #3 Take What You Need is after an overdue first...

2022 Dubai World Cup Carnival – Super Saturday – Saturday 5th March

Meydan Overview & Selections – Super Saturday:

Super Saturday has always been an excellent meeting as well as providing plenty of clues for World Cup night.

I have five selections at a range of prices, three on the turf and two on the dirt:

7:45am (ET) Meydan: Man of Promise

You couldn’t fail to be impressed by this horse last time out here at Meydan. He travelled strongly and quickened up instantly when asked to beat the useful Lazuli. That horse has franked the form since by winning the Group 2 Blue Point sprint. Man of Promise failed to move on last year after winning a Handicap here. He was well beaten in this race and on World Cup night, but I am hoping that he can move forward now and back up that impressive win last time out. He is still lightly raced and when he is right, he looks to be a Group 1 sprinter.

8:20am (ET) Meydan: Bendoog

This horse has only had two career starts, yet he is already very useful and could have more to give. He won his maiden here, beating future winners, and then was an excellent 4th in the UAE 2000 Guineas. He shaped like the best horse in that race as he forced an overly strong pace and ultimately did much better than any of those who attended that pace. That he was able to keep on and finish fourth is a testament to his raw ability. A more judicious ride will bring out the latent potential that this horse possesses. He is likely to be ridden prominently from stall 2, and hopefully he will not be compromised by fierce early fractions this time.

8:55am (ET) Meydan: Go On

Hypothetical sets the standards here, but stall 14 is far from ideal so I will pass him by for Go On who hails from the in-form yard of Doug O’Neill. He has had 4 winners at the Carnival and this horse gives him a shot at winning another big prize. He was a bit of a disappointment on his...

Race 10: #11 Let’s Do It, #8 En Pointe, #7 Galaxy Witness, #2 Seattle Choice

Race 1: Cornflower Handicap

6 Red Desert is favoured with no weight on his back here. He’s racing well and has an ideal advantage over rivals with the lowly impost. Expect a big run from the inside gate. #1 Will Power won with utter ease two starts ago. He’s one of Hong Kong’s best dirt performers who should make good account of himself again. #3 Kings Shield can bounce out of the ground at any time – especially on the dirt. Expect he rolls forward and tries to make all. #2 Californiadeepshot is next best. Don’t discount.

Race 2: Dendrobium Handicap

4 Enjoying gets another great chance to break through here. He’s yet to win but against this field he rates strongly with Joao Moreira up from the good gate. #1 Butterfield has the class-edge on rivals here. He gets a handy claim but will still need overcome and onslaught of better weighted rivals. #5 Looking Great won with a bit of authority last start. He draws well and is in close to career-best form. #6 Berlin Tango has been a conundrum since his arrival in Hong Kong. Still, the talent is...
