2022 Dubai World Cup Carnival – Friday 25th February

Meydan Overview & Selections – Week 7:

A low-key Carnival meeting on account of the action in Saudi this weekend and the looming presence of Super Saturday next week.

Nonetheless I am going with four selections to hopefully back up the two winners we had last week.

9:00am (ET) Meydan: Rawy

The drop back in trip can see this horse once again break well and make all against the rail. He disappointed in the UAE 2000 Guineas where he was ridden aggressively from the front over 1800 metres but did not get home. He is now down in grade and trip and looks set to dominate this field from stall 2. This is not a strong race and Mikael Barzalona should be able to dictate matters from the front. He is a confident selection to land the spoils.

10:10am (ET) Meydan: Bochart

This talented sprinter has been out of form this season, but now that he has had his sights lowered and returns to a viable level he is very much of interest. The last time he ran in a handicap was here at Meydan, where off a mark of 98 he made all for a comfortable success. He gets to race off a mark of 95 again here and that gives him a good chance of getting back into the winners’ enclosure. My confidence is increased by the fact that he has a low draw in stall 4 and I anticipate him making a bold show from the front.

10:45am (ET) Meydan: Star Safari

Charlie Appleby has won the last 4 renewals of this race and he can win it again with this classy individual. He won the Listed Zabeel Turf last time out with a bit in hand, after not experiencing the easiest of passages through the race. His trademark turn-of-foot got him out of trouble. He also won this race last year from Bedouins Story. That race didn’t look very deep, and this is not that deep either, thus I am expecting a repeat performance from this talented...

Race 1: Yuk Sau Handicap

4 Champion Pal is competitive over this course and distance. He draws favourably with Zac Purton engaged. Strong booking with the Australian engaged and stepping away from the inside gate should give him every chance. #5 Victorious Seeker falls into a similar category. Trainer Paul O’Sullivan could easily collect a one-two finish here. #7 Legion Of Merit is a threat. He won well two starts ago and deserves respect here. #9 Asian One is progressing. He’s improved with each rise in distance and should be a factor under the light weight.

Race 2: Tsui Man Handicap

3 Meaningful Star doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He pairs favourably with Zac Purton – who on Sunday – collected a win in tandem with trainer Francis Lui. The draw only enhances his chances. #5 A La King is chasing back-to-back wins. He’s a threat in his spot. #8 Dr Winning is showing steady signs of further improvement. He won well last start, enough so to suggest that another was a possibility. #2 Transcendent mixes his form but does have a bit of class on his day. Don’t discount him up in grade.

Race 3: Yik Yam Handicap...

Monday’s Lock Is At Pompano Park On Race 5

Monday’s “Lock” stays at Pompano Park on race 05 with the #5-Born Desire-Drops and had last quarter of 27 last out. Jo Chindano jr drives

Last Lock won again! The pick record is at 879 of 1379 wins with 242 seconds and 90 thirds.

Race 1: Ambitious Dragon Handicap

#7 Looking Great slots in light. Suspect he’s still on the improve and his handicap here has him favoured. He draws well, steps out for the in-form Frankie Lor and shapes as the one to beat. #5 Enjoying is desperately overdue for a win in Hong Kong. Expect he rolls forward and tries to make all here. #4 Berlin Tango falls into a similar category. Zac Purton’s booking commands respect. #1 Charity Go can do no wrong of late. He’s after back-to-back wins, which looks gettable here.

Race 2: Gold-Fun Handicap

#5 Cheery moved well in his latest trial. He looks to have a touch of class early on and he just might be ready to win first-up in Hong Kong. He’s worth taking a chance on. #2 Street Scream is racing...
