Mondays Card At Ajax Downs – September 17

Sep 17, 2018

Trials for rich Alex Picov Futurity headline huge Monday racing card

It is the championship season for Ontario Quarter Horse racing and the action heats up Monday afternoon.

Two trials for the $75,000 Alex Picov Futurity (final is on Oct. 8), one of the most prestigious races for juveniles in Canada, have attracted fields of nine and 10 tackling 400 yards.

MILDRED DIDRICKSON, a filly named for the remarkable track and field Olympian and champion golfer, is one of the major players in the first trial which is race 2. Owned by Milena Kwiecien and trained by Ajax Downs’ leading conditioner Jason Pascoe, the filly was a trial winner at Canterbury Downs in Minnesota and is making her Ajax debut. Her stablemate STRIPPER DUST, winner of the Bonus Futurity Stakes here on July 15 is also an exciting entrant.

The second trial, going as race 3 is headed by Erik and Joyce Lehtinen’s SHE’S SIZZLING, an Ontario-bred who began her career in the U.S. and has two wins from four starts.

Monday’s card has also lured reigning Horse of the Year COUNTRY BOY 123 who is entered in the 250-yard Sprint Series. Unbeaten in five starts in 2018, Country Boy 123 is prepping for the important Alex Picov Memorial Championship and this will be the shortest distance the 5-year-old has ever attempted.

Happy wagering and thank you for choosing IdaBet.com!

improve.

Yonkers Peek At Program- Monday, September 17th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players:

1ST RACE – (5) WINDSUN MAGNOLIA is the ‘Queen of Walkover’ after she became starlet breaking her maiden in one-horse race. Now has to beat others.

2ND RACE – (7) TAKE MY PICTURE has to be object of our affection after 213 starts, $1.1 million. Runner-up in ‘10 YR Trot back for first time since March.

4TH RACE – (2) PAINTED LADY is out of stakes competition for first time in quite a while. Well-placed to appreciate that fun factoid, so we can’t go past her.

5TH RACE – (4) YOU SAID IT has been racing well up at wooden Nichols, arriving here with trainer change. Guessing that resume ought to translate to these.

7TH RACE – (8) WHO’S BETTER offered no leave, then tight quarters, then rallied too late when ‘peeked’ in last. Obstinate to fault, try from behind eight-ball.

10TH RACE – (6) ROCKIN’ IN THE HILLS tries level tougher eying repeat  in race that’s spiced up by invading ‘unrateable’ rival couple doors inside. Perhaps.

Delaware County Fair Selections For Monday, September 17

DELAWARE COUNTY FAIR

09/17/2018

Selections by “Sulky Sam”

Dedicated in loving memory to the late Sam McKee, the best ambassador our sport has ever had.

Race 1

#1 Saulsbrook Astrobo—is a Maritme-bred altered son of Astronomical who looks ready to “go down the road” in the opener today.  Owner-trainer-driver Jeff Nisonger looks capable of the task.  You can use the 4 & 5 underneath.

Race 2

#5 Trotslikenoother—is 4 for 4 on the program when steered by Dan Noble, as she is today.  She has great early foot, which will serve her well here.  The 2 & 3 look like logical selections for exotics.

Race 3

#2 California Love—won here last year, and is enjoying a pretty good sophomore campaign.  Ron Wrenn Jr. gets his first of the day here.  The 1 & 3 are exotic ticket material.

Race 4

#3 Rock On Creek—gets Stahl back today, and he has done well in the past with this gelded son of Pet Rock.  The rail horse looks a clear 2nd, while the 4 and 7 look likely to fill the 3rd spot.

Race 5

#5 Urban Buzz—is a nice freshman filly trotter by Full Count who is 8 of 11 in her 1st racing season.  Veteran McIlmurray takes the lines as usual for conditioner Sweeney.  The 2, 3, and 6 should complete the balance of the ticket.

Race 6

#7 In Trouble Again—should be the 2nd winner of the day for Nisonger, who has training duties on this guy, but does not own this one.  The 1, 4, and 5 compete for minor spoils.

Race 7

#8 Winbak Charles M—has the gate speed and aggressive pilot in McCown to overcome the post...
