YONKERS HOSTS FINALS OF PETTICOAT, SAGAMORE HILL PACING SERIES

Yonkers Raceway offers up its two richest races of the season to date next week, wrapping up the Petticoat and Sagamore Hill Pacing Series, respectively.

Monday night (March 26th), with chivalry dictating the ladies go first, it’s the $62,000 finale (7th race) of the Petticoat. The series, for 3- and 4-year-old lasses with limited (non-winners of four races and/or $40,000 through last Dec. 1st) limelight, has seen some standouts in the three preliminary legs.

Caviart Cherie (Jordan Stratton, post 8), JK Jazzitup (Mark MacDonald, post 2), Dali Delight (Dan Dube, post 4) and Diamondtoothgertie (George Brennan, post 5) each won twice in the prelims, with JK Jazzitup and Dali Delight racing as a Gilberto Garcia-Herrera common-owner/trainer entry.

Gotthisone Hanover (Yannick Gingras, post 1), Absolutely Best (Jason Battlett,  post 3) D G’s Elsa (Eric Goodell, post 6) and Lusty Delight (Greg Merton, post 7) round out the field for the finale. All entrants are 4-year-olds.

Tuesday night (March 27th), the Raceway’s annual Teddy Roosevelt testimonial, the Sagamore Hill wraps with a final worth $63,400. It’s the boys’ version of the Petticoat, again for 3- and 4-year-olds of restricted resumes through last Dec. 1st.

Sometimesawinner (Brennan, post 3) won both of his series starts before getting last week off, while Mach N Cheese (Stratton, post 7) sandwiched a couple of wins around a second-place effort. These are the only sophomores in the finale lineup.

Obscene Blue Chip (Bartlett, post 4) and...

Yonkers Peek At Program- Friday, March 23rd

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet.com players:

3RD RACE – (3) WYNBERG COURAGE N has been decent enough in both ’18 tries. Now back in for tag and may or may not be out of his element, get price.

5TH RACE – (3) L A DELIGHT has some catching-up to do after scratching sick from first Matchmaker. Was ‘peeked’ then after solid seasonal bow, so again.

6TH RACE – (3) GINA GRACE N tried eight-hole in opener of series, only to back up in hurry. Much better draw, much softer comp. both aid this go-round.

7TH RACE – (7) DELIGHTFUL DRAGON isn’t quite up to series femmes, but she always works versus a notch below. Would expect her leaving from here.

10TH RACE – (5) EDEN PAIGE N was given the four-eyeball in latest, did not offer much. Gets one more shot at this increased level before we abandon ship.

11TH RACE – (4) STOLEN CAR has already matched his work total of last
season, doing good things as ‘25’ claimer. Taken thrice last four tries, tabbed here.

——

$2 +/- (thru Tue., Mar. 20) – 68 wins ($636.90)

from 330 ($660) selex (-$23.10, moving needle marginally)

highest-priced winner – MACHTU N ($33.80)

lowest-priced winners – SOTO/POINT SOMEWHERELSE ($2.70 each)

Turfway Park Picks From Battaglia For Thursday, March 22nd

Turfway Park by Bret Battaglia’s Picks: THURSDAY, MARCH 22nd

RACE 1
CANDRASA showed big improvement in her first start for Kim Hammond. A repeat of that performance would be good enough to win tonight. BIRD STREET stretches out to a mile and a sixteenth and has the speed to make the lead with Ouzts aboard. She is the one to catch. SHAMELESSFI is a solid threat.

RACE 2
ROB AND JON’S GIRL is an eight-year-old veteran who loves this track. She woke up last out and looked good winning at this level. She can make it two in a row with Figueroa back aboard for David Kinder. NATIVE INDY also comes off of a winning effort. She has the tactical speed to be in contention throughout and has to be respected. VIA FRATTINA stopped badly last out but is capable of better.

RACE 3
SUCKER PUNCHED was knocked around leaving the gate last out and then stopped after pressing the pace. He figures to make the lead tonight and gets the nod with Lebron picking up the mount. BODLER is a seven-year-old runner who has shown improvement since moving to the Turfway Poly. He looked good winning last out and is definitely the one to beat. THAMAAN fits in here.

RACE 4
TIZ BEAUTY is a consistent performer against bottom claimers and rates the edge over BELOVED BETTY and APPEALING JULIA, who both take huge class drops coming back after a layoff.

RACE 5
EMMY SHIMMY is a lightly raced four-year-old who gets blinkers for the first time tonight. She looks best against a fairly weak field of bottom maidens. CHANNEL NINE  showed big improvement last out and a repeat of that one makes her the one to beat. ZEMO is a contender.

RACE 6
MISS CATWOOD is riding a two-race win streak and has won six of her 12 races here at Turfway. She moves up a notch in class but looks best with Prentice picking up the mount for Jeff...
