English Soul Headlines East View

Initially scheduled for December 28 and postponed due to inclement weather, the $100,000 East View for New York-bred juvenile fillies has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 14 at Aqueduct Racetrack and features a talented field of nine runners.
Entering for Zilla Racing Stables and trying to remain undefeated on the dirt for trainer Ray Handal is English Soul. Sired by English Channel, she made her debut on August 28 at Saratoga Race Course on the turf where she quickly grabbed the lead establishing herself on the front end from a field of 10 before being caught late at the wire to finish second by a neck.
English Soul impressively broke her maiden in her second start by 14 ¼ lengths in a race initially intended for the turf but moved over a sloppy main track at Belmont Park.
Moving up to stakes class in her next start in the Chelsey Flower on the turf at Aqueduct on November 9, she ran sixth. Most recently, she captured an optional-claiming race moved off the turf over a sloppy main track at Aqueduct on November 22, recording a 72 Beyer Speed Figure.
Drawing the rail, English Soul will depart with Manny Franco aboard.
Cryinthemoonlight is set to make her third career start and first start since breaking her maiden on December 6 at the Big A, winning by 3 ¼ lengths. She is owned by Albert Fried, Jr. and trained by Charlie Baker.
A daughter of Street Cry, Cryinthemoonlight made her first start on November 18 at Aqueduct in which she drew post 13 from a field of 14 and raced 4 wide most of the way to finish eighth. Returning to earn a 69 Beyer Speed Figure last out, she will look to reunite with winning rider Dylan Davis from post 2.
Trainer Mark Hennig entered Cause We Are Loyal for Reddam Racing. A daughter of Creative Cause, she has two wins from five career starts. Starting her career with trainer Doug O’Neill, she broke her...

RED-HOT MAJESTIC HEAT & COMEBACKING UNION STRIKE HEAD FIELD OF EIGHT FILLIES & MARES IN SATURDAY’S GRADE II, $200,000 LA CANADA STAKES AT ONE MILE

Fresh off what appeared to be the best race of her career on Dec. 3, California-bred Majestic Heat, along with classy comebacker Union Strike, head an outstanding field of eight older fillies and mares in Saturday’s Grade II, $200,000 La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita. The La Canada, which has been shortened from 1 1/16 miles to a flat mile, will be run for the 44th time on Saturday.

A newly turned 6-year-old daughter of Unusual Heat, Majestic Heat defeated classy Champagne Room by 2 ½ measured lengths in the Grade II Bayakoa Stakes going 1 1/16 miles on Dec. 3 at Del Mar and appears at the peak of her powers for trainer Richard Mandella.

A winner of the Grade I, seven furlong Del Mar Debutante in her second career start in September, 2016, Union Strike just missed in the Grade II Eight Belles going seven furlongs two starts back on May 5, 2017 at Churchill Downs.

MAJESTIC HEAT

Owner: Madeline Auerbach, LLC, Ron McCauley and Bardy Farm Trainer: Richard Mandella

A winner of five out of 14 starts on turf, including a pair of minor stakes, this daughter of the late Unusual Heat was transferred to the main track two starts back on Nov. 12 and she responded with a 3 ¼ length win versus statebreds in the seven furlong Betty Grable Stakes going seven furlongs. In her most recent outing, she stretched out to 1 1/16 miles on Dec. 3 at Los Alamitos and responded by winning her first graded stakes, the Grade II Bayakoa, earning a career-best 94 Beyer Speed figure in the process. Bred by Madeline Auerbach and Barry Abrams, upstart Majestic Heat will be ridden for the second consecutive time by “Big Money” Mike Smith and she’s the horse to beat in the one mile La Canada. The top money earner in the field, she as a bankroll of...
