Ali De Vie Third Straight At Buffalo

We want you to know Ali De Vie sure must like the work of Buffalo Raceway track photographer Steve Roth.

For the third straight Friday night, Ali De Vie (Jim Morrill Jr.) posed for pictures in the winner’s circle for Roth by taking the $9,000 featured trot in a seasonal best 1:58.1 over the good track.
And while Ali De Vie ($8.30) isn’t camera shy, he’s not afraid of taking on stiffer competition each week either. He’s stepped up in class the past three starts and showed that he’s capable of handling the tougher tasks.
As expected, the speed ball Lutetium (Ron Beback Jr.) zoomed to the top from the outside. Ali De Vie managed to find a seat in fourth as Lutetium posted panels of 28.4, 58.3 and 1:28.2.
Starting a first over trip just past the half-mile marker, Ali De Vie steadily began to slice into the lead of Lutetium and nudged ahead in mid stretch to pull away for a half length win. Lutetium was a stubborn second while Carbon Footprint (Drew Monti) picked up the third place check.
In was the fourth win of the season for Ali De Vie (Conway Hall-Excusez Moi). The 6-year-old gelding has put $13,706 in the bank in 2016 and $105,944 lifetime. He is owned and trained by Marc Shuttleworth.
Morrill Jr. finished the evening with four victories while Todd Cummings added a double.
Racing will continue on Saturday night at 6 p.m. with an 11-race card scheduled.

IdaBet Players Note: MISS DOUBLE D’ORO FLIES LATE TO TAKE $75,000 ARBORETUM II STAKES

With a devastating late kick the final furlong, longshot Miss Double d’Oro flew from last to first to win Friday’s $75,000 Arboretum II Stakes by one half length at Santa Anita.  Ridden by Santiago Gonzalez and conditioned by Neil Drysdale, Miss Double d’Oro prevailed in a field of nine older fillies and mares as she covered 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf course in 1:13.98.

Off at 10-1, she paid $23.00, $6.00 and $3.80.

“We realize now that she’s got that one short kick,” said Drysdale.  “So you need to sit tight and make a run.”

A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Medaglia d’Oro, Miss Double d’Oro is owned by Calumet Farm.  In getting her third win from 10 starts, she picked up $47,700 for the win, increasing her earnings to $155,950.

Off as the solid 3-5 favorite, Dreamologist sat a close second down the hill and was carried wide at the dirt crossing by pacesetter, Tesalina.  Ridden by Flavien Prat, Dreamologist overhauled Tesalina with about 50 yards to run, but couldn’t hold off the winner late and paid $2.80 and $2.20.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Tesalina was very erratic crossing the dirt but kept to her task gamely, finishing a nose in front of My Year Is a Day for third money.  Off at 4-1, she paid $3.20 to show.

Fractions on the race were 22.07, 45.07 and 1:07.96.

First post time for an 11-race card on Saturday is 12:30 p.m.  Admission gates open at 10:30 a.m.

IdaBet Players Note: FANTASTIC STYLE LOOMS LARGE IN SUNDAY’S GRADE III, $100,000 LAS FLORES STAKES

Idle since July 11, Bob Baffert’s Fantastic Style heads a field of six older fillies and mares going six furlongs in Sunday’s Grade III, $100,000 Las Flores Stakes at Santa Anita.  A winner of the Grade II, 6 ½ furlong Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos July 11, Fantastic Style was an impressive maiden special weight winner going six furlongs I her second career start here in January, 2015, and has three wins from four Santa Anita starts.

FANTASTIC STYLE:  Owned by Kaleem Shah, Inc., this 4-year-old filly by Harlan’s Holiday has an abbreviated but very impressive resume, as she is 6-4-1-1 and is unbeaten in her only try at six furlongs.  Handicappers will no doubt take comfort in knowing that Rafael Bejarano, who was aboard for her last two wins, is back in the saddle for the Las Flores, apparently opting for her over highly regarded Cadet Roni, with whom he won a pair of races here in January.  Naturally quick, Fantastic Style could have plenty of company up front if she guns for the early lead.

CADET RONI:  Trained by Mark Glatt, this 4-year-old daughter of Colonel John comes off a smashing 6 ¾ length win over a wet fast main track in the restricted Wishing Well Stakes here on Jan. 31, and like Fantastic Style, seeks her third win in a row.  Owned by Al and Saundra Kirkwood, she’ll be ridden for the first time by Gary Stevens.  With three wins from seven starts at Santa Anita, Cadet Roni, who will face graded stakes competition for the first time, is 11-4-1-2 overall.

FINEST CITY:  Trained by Ian Kruljac, this 4-year-old City Zip filly was an ultra game second, beaten a head, two starts back in the Grade II, seven furlong Santa Monica Stakes on Jan. 23, and was subsequently third in a tough second condition allowance at 6 ½ furlongs Feb. 11.  Owned by Seltzer Thoroughbreds, both of her lifetime wins have come at six furlongs. ...
