CLOSING WEEKEND AT SANDY DOWNS

FAMILY FESTIVAL, STAKES FINALS AS

SANDY DOWNS CONCLUDES SEASON THIS WEEKEND

In a rematch of their Hadtobenuts Derby trial, Lajolla Famosa and Hadtobeawinner are the main challengers in the three-year-old quarter horse championship for the 2011 Sandy Downs meet in Idaho
Falls.  The Gary and Jeralyn Messenger owned Lajolla Famosa returned to his strong 2010 form with an easy win over Hadtobeawinneer on July 15 for his sixth career victory in just 12 races.  Paul Greene gets the mount again in Saturday’s 7thrace.  Hadtobeawinner is the son of the Derby’s namesake Hadtobenuts who showed promise in his runner up finish last time for owner Dan Moon, the major sponsor of the $24,000, 350 yard race.  Racing concludes for the year with a 6 p.m. post time both Friday and Saturday.

In the $32,000 Hawthorne Futurity for two-year-olds Moon’s Hadtobenuts daughter, Wayward Wings fresh off a victory in her trial division for the juvenile championship is favored for leading trainer Brett Vickery.  She will be tested by Eye Yin Fury, who won his trial and is 2 for 3 in his promising young career for owners Andrea and Eddy Jensen.  Sponsored by Hawthorne Animal Hospital, the Futurity is the 5th race on Saturday’s closing night card going 350-yards for quarter horses.

The racing season wraps up with a two day festival of family fun featuring live music, face painters, fun bounce, a country barbecue and discount food prices.  Ga

WILBUR WOODBINE’S PICKS FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE MATINEE

WOODBINE
RACETRACK

12/31/2012

New Year’s Eve matinee “selections” by Wilbur Woodbine

Race  1

#6 Instant Thrill—made
the final of the Valedictory series, raced on Boxing Day.  He was over a 70-1 shot in that, and raced
like one.  These will be easier, and it
would be fitting that team Moreau/Filion win this after the year they’ve had,
that ends today.

#5 Espen De Vie—Raced
at Western Fair on Boxing Day against the Preferred group.  He was overmatched there, but shouldn’t have
nearly as much issue with these.  He goes
for his 10th 2012 score in his 29th trip to post for team
Oreilly/Zeron.  Contends.

#3 Machs Beach Boy—is
trackman Middleton’s m/l favourite.  He
too sees class relief here.  He looks to
possess a good deal of speed, but Wilbur has trouble looking past the paltry
.165 UDR that pilot Ouellette sports.
Seems his best days are behind him.

#5 Remorse Code—is
yet another seeking class relief here.
Moiseyev, who has the call again today, drove him on the lead for a time
in his Boxing Day start.  He came up
short in the stretch, and unless he was hiding something, gets a call for a
minor share.

Race  2

#1 Maradona—does
not fit the main conditions listed here, nw 1, or $8k LT.  He does get in on the alternate...
