FAMILY FESTIVAL, STAKES FINALS AS
SANDY DOWNS CONCLUDES SEASON THIS WEEKEND
In a rematch of their Hadtobenuts Derby trial, Lajolla Famosa and Hadtobeawinner are the main challengers in the three-year-old quarter horse championship for the 2011 Sandy Downs meet in Idaho
Falls.  The Gary and Jeralyn Messenger owned Lajolla Famosa returned to his strong 2010 form with an easy win over Hadtobeawinneer on July 15 for his sixth career victory in just 12 races.  Paul Greene gets the mount again in Saturday’s 7thrace.  Hadtobeawinner is the son of the Derby’s namesake Hadtobenuts who showed promise in his runner up finish last time for owner Dan Moon, the major sponsor of the $24,000, 350 yard race.  Racing concludes for the year with a 6 p.m. post time both Friday and Saturday.
In the $32,000 Hawthorne Futurity for two-year-olds Moon’s Hadtobenuts daughter, Wayward Wings fresh off a victory in her trial division for the juvenile championship is favored for leading trainer Brett Vickery.  She will be tested by Eye Yin Fury, who won his trial and is 2 for 3 in his promising young career for owners Andrea and Eddy Jensen.  Sponsored by Hawthorne Animal Hospital, the Futurity is the 5th race on Saturday’s closing night card going 350-yards for quarter horses.
The racing season wraps up with a two day festival of family fun featuring live music, face painters, fun bounce, a country barbecue and discount food prices.  Ga
