Summer Season Starts On May 10

            RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (April 22, 2019) — The Ruidoso Downs summer racing season quickly approaches on May 10 and the track opened for training on Monday morning.

            The opening on May 10 is earlier than in previous years. The opening day program is highlighted by trials to the inaugural $100,000 Maiden Stakes.

            The $45,000 (est.) Rita Danley Distaff (June 30) for three-year-old and older New Mexico-bred quarter horse fillies and mares will also be contested for the first time this summer. The AQHA Regional Juvenile Challenge (June 2) for two-year-old quarter horses returns to the Ruidoso Downs stakes lineup. Juvenile Challenge trials are May 17. 

            These stakes races join the iconic Grade 1 races at Ruidoso Downs. Those legendary events are the $750,000 (est.) Ruidoso Derby (June 8), the $1,000,000 (est.) Ruidoso Futurity (June 9), the $750,000 (est.) Rainbow Derby (July 20), the $1,000,000 (est.) Rainbow Futurity (July 21), the $200,000-guaranteed All American Gold Cup (September 1), the $1,000,000 (est.) All American Derby (September 1) and the $3,000,000 (est.) All American Futurity (September 2).

            Ruidoso Downs offers a $2-million Triple Crown Futurity Bonus to the connections of a horse winning all three futurities. There is the $1-million Triple Crown Derby Bonus for any horse sweeping the three Grade 1 derbies.

            There will be special promotions throughout the summer. The giveaways include a 2019 Jeep Wrangler on July 4th weekend racing and a 2019 Dodge Ram Warlock during Labor Day weekend.
