If he minds manners (a BIG “if”), should win. 5-JAILHOUSE LAWYER…starting to give hints. Liked backside brush in last (:28.4). Fits nicely here. 1-BAD ANGEL…lost touch with leaders on backside through very quick panels for class. Rail helps.

RACE TWO 6-GOLD SAVAGE…like for couple of reasons: 1) class dip; 2) dented quick 3d panel (:28.1) Wiring? 4-HOLD ON TIGHTLY…lost composure leaving in last. Performance back to Feb. 23 threatens here. 2-SKYWAY PIPPEN…not afraid to take air when given room to roam. Will be flying in the stretch.

RACE THREE 1-SANTANA BEACH…hampered by posts last two. Still, loved backside brush double-bubbled 3/8ths out. 4-NICHOLAS RYAN…puts in solid performances week-after-week. We thought our IdaBet.com players would want to know that Rosecroft Raceway kicks off their 27-day Winter/Spring race meet on Tuesday, March 8^th.  A major change for this year is the introduction of SUNDAY twilight racing at 4:40 PM ET.  In addition to Sunday, Rosecroft will offer live racing every Tuesday night at 6:40 PM ET.

Rosecroft will host special Saturday night cards on the three Triple Crown days – May 7^th, May 21^st, and June 11^th.  Post time will be 6:40 PM ET for those Saturday night cards.

“We have developed a very nice niche on Tuesday evenings in the simulcast marketplace and we thought Sundays might be an opportunity to draw a new on-track audience and also serve an underserved part of the harness simulcast marketplace,” said Peter Hanley, Racing Secretary for Rosecroft.

Full fields, competitive and quality races have been on the upswing for Rosecroft over the past several years and 2016 is likely to continue that trend.  “We will start off with a purse increase over 2015 (pushing purses to a nightly average of over $80,000 per night) and our Maryland Preferred horses (Maryland owned, bred and sired) will now be eligible for a 20% bonus on earnings (up from 15% in 2015),” said Hanley.

Rosecroft also hopes to keep the wagering momentum on its races going in 2016.  “On-track handle last year was up 5% and our export handle was up over 50%, even with lightly less races vs. 2014,” said Christopher McErlean, Vice President of Racing for Penn National Gaming, Inc., parent company of Rosecroft Raceway.  “The goal since we took over in 2011 (after the track’s bankruptcy) was to continuously rebuild the racing program.  Those efforts are starting to show in the key metrics of our business,” said McErlean.

RACE ONE EARLY DOUBLE- 4-4, 7-4 PICK-5- 4,7 w 4 w 1,6,8 w 3,5,7 w 4,5 7-ADO DUHARAS…pylon violation cost win in last. Won’t let that happen again this time around. 4-GRANDMA JAN’S GEMS…lightly raced filly has shown speed, manners & great closing kick home. 6-CHOCOUTURE…doesn’t win often but on the board very often. Always seems to be close up.

RACE TWO 4-STURGEON SEELSTER…showed decent gate speed in last and willing close. Compares very well. 5-REYS N A COMMOTION…had blazing gate speed in last & involved in blanket finish. Great spot. 6-FAST BILL…pulled turn 2 in last. 3d panel too stif to dent. As front speed waned, showed pace.

RACE THREE 1-SCIROCCO JAKOB…rail should help keep closer earlier. Can brush for prolonged period when given track. 8-KABU…gets some class relief here after showing good, strong trot final 3/8ths of the mile. RACE FOUR PENTAFECTA- (Box) 2,3,5,7,8...

We thought our IdaBet.com players would want to know that graded stakes winning Toews On Ice heads a field of six sophomores in Santa Anita’s $75,000 San Pedro Stakes at six furlongs on Friday.

TOEWS ON ICE:  Trained by Bob Baffert and named for Chicago Blackhawks star center and captain, Johnathan Toews (pronounced TAZE), Toews On Ice was an impressive winner of the Grade III, seven furlong Bob Hope Stakes three starts back on Nov. 14 at Del Mar, but he comes off a disappointing sixth place finish as the 3-5 favorite in the one mile Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park Jan. 18.

Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Toews On Ice, who is Triple Crown nominated, was a close second to his highly regarded stablemate Mor Spirit two starts back in the Grade I Los Alamitos Futurity on Dec. 19.  A Kentucky-bred colt by Archarcharch, Toews On Ice has pressed or been on the early lead in all seven of his starts, resulting in three wins and earnings of $245,700.

DENMAN’S CALL:  Trained by Doug O’Neill, this Kentucky-bred gelding by Northern Afleet has done little wrong in two starts.  A stylish 3 ¾ length first-out maiden special weight winner going 5 ½ furlongs here on Jan. 9, Denman’s Call hugged the rail en route to an impressive third place finish behind top Derby contender Nyquist in the Grade II, seven furlong San Vicente Stakes on Feb. 15—an effort that earned him a lofty 94 Beyer Speed figure.  Owned by Gilman Racing, Westside Rentals.com or W.C. Racing, Inc., Denman’s Call is also Triple Crown nominated and could use a win in the San Pedro as a springboard to the Derby trail.
