Bret Battaglia’s Picks for Turfway Park for Saturday, January 30th

Race 1

CAUSE I’M ALEX just missed last time out and is the choice for the win here despite the move back up in class. KORUS WARRIOR drops back down to the same level he broke his maiden at over the summer at Ellis and could be dangerous here if he’s ready. SUCCESSFUL PLAN ran a decent race over the track last time out and figures to move forward off of that one.

Race 2

ROYAL SPACES has been beaten as the favorite in her last two starts, but hooks a slightly softer field tonight and should be able to pick up the maiden win here. STEF’S GIRL might have needed her last after having been off since September. She drops in class and looks capable of running well here. GRACE BE GREAT has finished right behind the top pick in her last two starts and is a contender.

Race 3

GHOSTLY WONDER has been in good form since coming to Turfway, winning two of his last three starts. He figures to be on or near the lead again tonight, give him the edge against a well-matched field. ETERNAL RULER looked sharp wining last time out on the move back down in class. A repeat of that effort makes him the one to beat again tonight. TIMELY PURSUIT was second best behind an impressive winner last time out. He won two in a row sprinting at this level before that one and shouldn’t mind the extra distance tonight.

Race 4

GRACE’S DEVIL shows three solid efforts against similar in his last three starts and is the choice for the win here. THE DUCK OF REED didn’t fire as the favorite last time out, but is capable of better. GOLDEN CAUSEWAY has a chance.

Race 5

BAJA BESSIE comes in off a nice win against similar and looks like she’s in a good spot to win...

‘GOOD TRIP’ CRUCIAL FOR BOOZER IN TURF CLASSIC

Boozer makes his second attempt to win the $250,000 California Cup Turf Classic presented by City National Bank Saturday when the son of Unusual Heat trained by Mark Glatt for Al and Saundra Kirkwood runs in the mile-and-an-eighth race for four-year-olds and up.

The six-year-old gelding is usually on the pace or close to it. Last year, he missed winning the Classic by a neck after leading most of the way under Gary Stevens, who is back aboard Saturday.

“It looks like there’s speed in the race and hopefully he’ll relax behind it,” Glatt said. “If he gets a good trip, he’ll be close and we’ll see if we can hang on this year.”

The Turf Classic, one of five stakes races worth a total of $1 million for California-bred or sired horses on Sunshine Millions Day: Tamarando, Edwin Maldonado, 20-1; G.G. Ryder,...

Turfway Park picks by Bret Battaglia, Fri, Jan 29th

1

KEEPING IT REAL has been off since early December when he finished second at this same level. Give him the edge to pick up the maiden win here. SETTLEYOURCRACKERS shows a nice third place finish against similar last time out and looks like a contender. TRIBUNUS was third last time out in his first start in nearly two years. Any improvement off of that effort could make him dangerous here.

2

FORGED SIGNATURE didn’t show much in his last start, but ran well at Churchill at this same level in his debut before that one and is the choice for the win here. AS YOU KNOW drops in class and looks like a contender. BURNING VISION was second last time out and could be dangerous if he likes the shorter distance tonight.

3

CHEROKEE IN ME has been off since October when she broke her maiden at first asking at Mountaineer. She shows a few nice works over the track here at Turfway recently and looks best in a short but well-matched field. ARYA was a distant second behind an impressive winner last time out. She picks up Jimenez tonight and would be no surprise here. MARTHA ROSE moves back up in class after just missing last time out and definitely looks capable of winning here.

4

GILLEY closed well to finish second here at Turfway last time out in her first start at this bottom level. She shouldn’t mind the move back around two turns tonight and it looks like she’s in a good spot to pick up the win here. MOJA NAGRODA was second at this same level last time out and looks...

MY REVENUER PULLS OFF 19 TO 1 SHOCKER IN POMPANO OPEN TROT

Pompano Beach, FL…January 26, 2016…In an evenly matched septet featuring a pair of 5 to 2 chances on the tote-board and two others at 3 to 1, it was a 19 to 1 outsider—My Revenuer—that upset the applecart in Pompano Park’s $12,500 Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday night.

The eight year-old gelded son of Revenue S, handled this night by Brad Kramer, avoided trouble around the final turn by ducking inside of two “breakers” and closed fastest of all to nail the victory in a photo finish, stopping the timer in 1:54.3.

She’s All In, with Rick Plano in the bike, was second while Uriel, teamed up with George Napolitano, Jr., finished third after cutting panels of :27.3, :55.3 and 1:25 along the way.
Sailer Eddie finished fourth while Cashahallic finished fifth after vying for the lead through those fast two opening fractions.

When the Hummer Starting Gate left the station, She’s All In was away with alacrity with Uriel also away in good order but intent on the lead as Cashahallic was charging up from his outside post.

As the battle ensued up front throughout that opening half between Uriel and Cashahallic, She’s All In was content in third with Sailer Eddie fourth. On the backside, Escuela went brushing up followed by Winding Hill—the slight favorite.

At the third station in 1:25, Escuela moved to within a length of the leader...
