Siskel Scorches Seasonal Best At Plainridge Park

Siskel Scorches Seasonal Best At Plainridge Park

Sep 28, 2018

Coming off his best effort of the year last week, Siskel bounced back even sharper to post the fastest mile of the day as he won the $12,000 conditioned pacing event at Plainridge Park.

When the dust of five leavers settled, Some Attitude (Nick Graffam) ended up on top and blistering a :25.4 first quarter while Siskel (Mitchell Cushing) sat drafting second. The top two horses broke away from the pack by two lengths and cut fast fractions of :54 and 1:21.3 before heading into the final turn.

By the top of the stretch, Cushing had Siskel out and moving and drew alongside Some Attitude. With both Cushing and Graffam getting after their mounts, Siskel finally got an edge and Cushing rocked him all the way to the wire to win in 1:50.2, which was a new seasonal mark for the winner.

Siskel ($8.80) scored his fourth win of the year for owner Joseph Trice and trainer Jimmy Nickerson.

Siskel was just one of four winners piloted by Mitchell Cushing on Thursday. Shawn Gray also had a driving triple with Jimmy Whittemore getting two wins of his own.

Those bettors seeking instant fortunes had a field day at Plainridge Park on Thursday as some big money payouts highlighted the day.

In the 10th race Crush Hanover (McGwire Sowers) who was overlooked at the windows, scored a come from behind...

Yonkers Peek At Program- Friday, September 28th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet.com players:

1ST RACE – (4) LONE SURVIVOR did backpedal in latest, but previous try not bad. Finds himself in for tag this time around, should offer square opener price.

2ND RACE – (1) MACINTOSH N returns here at reduced level, pole dances and figures to take these as far as he can. Fast math says field is 17-for-194, so…?

4TH RACE – (7) HORSING AROUND has had a pair of brutal trips, last out when gazed. Draws obviously stinks, but we’re staying hoping he finds way into it.

7TH RACE – (6) BELLATRICKS chased a resurgent lass consecutively, now dips down ladder. Same as with above number, night depends if she gets involved.

9TH RACE – (5) LAKEISHA HALL finds her way back for first effort since finale of B-C Matchmaker. Lass never cheats in effort department and works here.

10TH RACE – (4) ALL ABOUT MADI does rid herself of a month’s worth of no-shot trips (three seven-holes and an eight-ball). Thus, finale hooray for her.

——

$2 +/- (thru Tue., Sept. 25) – 256 wins ($2,037.70)
from 1,125 ($2,250) selex (-$212.30, bandwagon not completely full)

highest-priced winner – HIGHVIEW CONALL N ($43.60)
lowest-priced winner – PLUNGE BLUE CHIP ($2.20, friggin’ shrewd)

Oklahoma Derby Field May Feature Horses Who Ran Third to Triple Crown Winner Justify

The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby, to be run Sept. 30 at Remington Park, is expected to include likely starters Core Beliefs and Lone Sailor. Both horses have figured prominently on the national scene this year in the 3-year-old championship division.

Core Beliefs ran third to Triple Crown winner Justify in the Grade 1 $1 million Santa Anita Derby in southern California in April before winning the Grade 3, $500,000 Ohio Derby in June at Thistledown in Cleveland.

Lone Sailor competed in both the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. and the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in Baltimore. He then finished third to Good Magic in the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. Most recently, Lone Sailor was second to Limation in the Grade 3, $300,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La.

Other 3-year-olds expected for the Oklahoma Derby are Believe in Royalty for trainer Larry Jones and Tatters To Riches, conditioned by Jeff Mullins. Believe in Royalty won the Ellis Park Derby in western Kentucky in August. He competed in the 2017 Springboard Mile at Remington Park, finishing sixth in a field of 12.

Tatters To Riches didn’t begin his 3-year-old season until Del Mar this summer in southern California. He was a perfect two-for-two there, winning an allowance race and then then the $100,000 Shared Belief Stakes. Tatters To Riches was at 9-2 odds in the Grade 1, Del Mar Futurity against Bolt D’Oro last year.

Originally run as the Norfolk and most recently contested as the FrontRunner Stakes, the American Pharoah, one of four Grade I, Breeder’s Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge Races, is named for Baffert’s brilliant 2015 Triple Crown winner, who annexed the FrontRunner in September of 2014.
