14 Older Fillies and Mares Tangle Thursday in Red Carpet ‘Cap

14 Older Fillies and Mares Tangle Thursday in Red Carpet ‘Cap

Nov 23, 2017

Fourteen older fillies and mares will be tested at the marathon distance of a mile and three-eighths on the grass as the highlight of an eight-race holiday program of Thoroughbred racing Thanksgiving Thursday in the $100,000 Red Carpet Handicap. Special post time for the first race is 11 a.m.

Packing highweight of 122 pounds in the Red Carpet will be Irish-bred Evo Campo, victress in the Grade III mile and one-half Santa Barbara last spring. Rafael Bejarano has the call on the five-year-old Approve mare, a winner of six of 14 starts.

Weighted a pound below Evo Campo at 121 is another Irish-bred female, Responsibleforlove, second to Evo Campo in the Santa Barbara. Joe Talamo rides. Subsequently, Responsibleforlove won the CTT and TOC Handicap at the Red Carpet distance during Del Mar’s summer season.

Others in the line-up for what appears to be a wide-open betting event are Laseen, Tiago Pereira; Dynamic Mizzes K, Gary Stevens; Victress, Stewart Elliott; La Manta Gris, Kent Desormeaux; Kiss Me Now, Brice Blanc; Do The Dance, Tyler Baze; Galileo’s Song, Mike Smith; Earring, Drayden Van Dyke; Birdie Gold, Mario Gutierrez; Domestic Vintage, Kyle Frey; How Unusual, Corey Nakatani, and Lottie, Flavien Prat.

Likely to attract support are two invaders from the East Coast, stakes-placed Galileo’s Song, from the powerful barn of trainer Chad Brown, and Lottie, conditioned by Graham Motion and also stakes-placed.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for choosing IdaBet!

Charles Town Will Hold Racing on Thanksgiving Night

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder to our IdaBet players that Charles Town will hold live racing on Thanksgiving night, Thursday, November 23.  First race post time is their usual 7:00pm ET start time.

Los Alamitos Winter Meet to Feature Pair of Grade I Races for 2-Year Olds

For those IdaBet players gearing up for Los Alamitos to start there are some featured races to watch for.  A pair of Grade I races for 2-year-olds and the return of the Grade II, $200,000 Bayakoa Stakes highlight the 2017 Winter meet at Los Alamitos.

The 12-day season will begin Thursday, Nov. 30 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 17.

Racing will be conducted on a Thursday-Sunday basis. Post time will be 1 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. on weekends.

The $300,000 Starlet for fillies and the $300,000 Los Alamitos CashCall Futurity will be run Saturday, Dec. 9. Both races are at 1 1/16 miles and being offered at Los Alamitos for the fourth time. The two significant races were run previously at Hollywood Park (1981-2013).

Abel Tasman, who is favored to be named the champion 3-year-old filly of 2017, won the 2016 Starlet for trainer Simon Callaghan while Hall of Fame conditioner Bob Baffert earned his record ninth Futurity victory with Mastery last Dec. 10.

Baffert has won the first three runnings of the Futurity at Los Alamitos, capturing the 2014 renewal with Dortmund and scoring with Mor Spirit in 2015.

The Bayakoa, which is for fillies and mares (3-year-olds & up) at 1 1/16 miles, will be run at Los Alamitos for the first time since 2014.

Named in honor of the multiple-graded stakes winning mare owned by Frank and Janis Whitham and trained by Hall of Famer Ron McAnally, the Bayakoa wasn’t offered in 2015 and was run at Del Mar a year ago. It will be run Sunday, Dec. 3.
