OPENING WEEKEND STAKES FIELDS TAKING SHAPE

Prospective fields for Keeneland’s marquee Spring Meet events for 3-year-olds, the $1 million Toyota Blue Grass (G1) and the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1), are beginning to come into focus a little more than a week out from the April 9 renewals on the second day of the 2016 season.

Racing Secretary Ben Huffman and Stakes Coordinator Tiffany Bourque have nine runners deemed as probable starters for the 92nd running of the Toyota Blue Grass at 1 1/8 miles on dirt.

The winner of the Toyota Blue Grass earns 100 qualifying points to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1). The next three finishers in the race will receive 40 points, 20 points and 10 points, respectively.

Heading that list is the Albaugh Family Stable’s Brody’s Cause. Winner of the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) here last fall and a subsequent third in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), Brody’s Cause is trained by Dale Romans. Four years ago, Romans completed a Breeders’ Futurity-Toyota Blue Grass double with Dullahan.

Other Toyota Blue Grass probables are American Dubai, Donegal Moon, Hint of Roses, Laoban, Pinson, Star Hill, Twizz and Vorticity.

Emerald Downs Adds A Pick 7

We knew you would want to know!

MORE WAYS TO WIN FOR LESS,
PICK 7 ADDED FOR 2016 MEET
Emerald Downs has announced a new wager for its 2016 season, and has lowered the minimum bet amount on several existing wagers.
Beginning opening day, Saturday, April 9, a new 20-cent Pick 7 will be offered on the final seven races each day. Featuring a reduced takeout of 16.1 percent, a portion of the wagering pool will carryover on days when there are no tickets with all seven winners.
“With a lower takeout this wager should offer value and a chance for a big score, especially when we get a string of carryovers,” said Emerald Downs President Phil Ziegler. “And by making it a 20 cent wager, players can afford a realistic chance of winning.”
Also in 2016, rolling Pick 3 wagers have been lowered to a 50 cent minimum, rolling Daily Doubles have been lowered to a $1 minimum wager, and Trifectas have been reduced to a 50 cent minimum wager. Last year the superfecta wager was lowered to a 10-cent minimum. The Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers remain at 50 cents, exactas remain at $1, and the 123 Pick 6 daily handicapping contest wager remains at $2.
The final race each day should have a lot of added excitement as it will be the final leg of a Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, 123 Racing Pick 6, and the new Pick 7.
Emerald Downs is located in Auburn, WA and is celebrating its 20th Anniversary season with 70 days of racing from April 9 to September 11.
Thanks for supporting Emerald Downs and for choosing...
