Selections By “The Ace” John Hernandez – Feb 15

RACE 1 6 Gold In This Lane journeyed to Ocala to run there January 26 … the 5YO mare is still winless after 16 starts. 2 Grannys Rocket has finished 3rd in 2 straight at the meet … her trainer/jockey tandem have won some races. 8 Adrinni moves up to the $10K MCL level for a top trainer/jockey duo … maybe he can have an impact here.

RACE 2 4 Shezmissindependent is dropped in for a tag and gets Rodrigo Vallejo … those two changes make the diff! 3 Checkin Out Checks looks like a contender at 220 yards … his young pilot will have to keep him focused. 2 Tf Painted Strawfly runs for the third time this season … give the 4YO mare a chance to be a contender.

RACE 3 5 Bold Medal Jess runs for “under the radar” trainer Ruben Flores … he rallied strongly in his most recent out. 6 Bravadan had trouble as a beaten favorite January 29 … jockey Cristian Esqueda is having a strong season. 4 Hiclass Attraction probably “needed one” in early January … don’t be surprised to see a better try this time.

INSIDE IS THE SHORTEST WAY AROUND FOR NYQUIST

Nyquist makes his much-anticipated three-year-old debut Monday in the Grade II San

Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs, the first step on what Team O’Neill hopes will lead to the Kentucky Derby on May 7.

Winner of all five career starts, his last three Grade I stakes including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Oct. 31, Nyquist drew the rail against five rivals, not necessarily any trainer’s favorite post position sprinting, but Doug O’Neill is taking it in stride.

“I think with a good horse, it’s part of it,” he said. “You take what they give you, and

sometimes the rail’s not a bad thing. It’s the shortest way around. You just have to break good. We’re pretty confident in Nyquist. He’s a good...

IdaBet.com Players Gain With Sam Houston Upsets By Expect Royalty And Bully Good

IdaBet.com Players Gain With Sam Houston Upsets By Expect Royalty And Bully Good

Feb 14, 2016

Our IdaBet.com players sure enjoyed the stakes action on Saturday night that included three features with two upsets in the $50,000 Houston Distaff and $50,000 Houston Turf and impressive finish in the $50,000 Sam Houston Sprint Cup. Some of our IdaBet.com horseplayers were able to take advantage of some large payoffs. Congratulations!

Expect Royalty Pulls the Upset in the $50,000 Houston Distaff

Seneca Destiny, winner of the 2016 San Jacinto Stakes on January 22 at Sam Houston Race Park, was sent off as the betting choice in tonight’s first feature, the $50,000 Houston Distaff. However, it was the winner of the 2015 San Jacinto, Expect Royalty, who came flying in the final furlong of the mile and one-sixteenth turf feature, to score the upset.

Trained by Leroy Pollok, and owned by his wife, Loyana, the 6-year-old daughter of Valid Expectations ran fifth to Seneca Destiny last month. But with regular rider, Iram Vargas Diego aboard, she returned her stakes-winning form this evening. Molly’s Honor set the early pace under jockey Lindey Wade, covering the first quarter in :25.20 and the half-mile in :50.11.  A trio of runners got into gear and made the late bid, with Expect Royalty winning by a nose over Whiskey Eyes. The final time, over the firm Connally turf course, was 1.44.19.

“She’d been off five months and needed that last race,” said Pollok. “I thought she could do it and tonight she proved she’s back. Iram gave her a great ride; we are blessed to have him.  It didn’t look like he had much room, but he spotted a little hole and got through.”

Diego won four races on the card this evening and is engaged in a contentious battle with David...

Turfway Park Selections

Happy Valentine’s Day IdaBet.com players!  Customers like you are the HEART of our BUSINESS! Thank you for your continued loyalty and support. Bret Battaglia’s Picks for Sunday, Feb. 14th are listed below.  Bret has been pretty hot lately and it is our pleasure to pass these selections along for wagering considerations exclusively for our IdaBet.com customers.

Turfway Park – Saturday, Feb 14

Race1

ROYAL SPACES has been second as the favorite in each of her last three starts, but should be able to pick up the maiden win against a soft field today. STEF’S GIRL finished behind the top pick last time out and is a contender. MIZ KNIGHTLY has a chance.

Race 2

MARTHA ROSE just missed at this level two starts back and is the choice for the win on the move back down in class. SUCCESSFUL BRAT finished right with the top pick a few starts back and definitely looks capable of winning here. TUCUPITA didn’t show much last time out, but is capable of better.

Race 3

EURO CASH extended his win streak to four in a row last time out in his first start since July. A repeat of that effort would make him tough to beat again today. BACK AWAY has a win and two seconds in his last three starts here at Turfway and looks like the one to beat. CALMER THAN YOU shows two solid efforts in his last two and could be dangerous here.

Race 4

AKAPESCHE has been in good form since coming back from the layoff, winning each of his two starts here at Turfway. Give him a slight edge against a very well-matched field. THE GREEN COUGAR was second behind the top pick two starts back, but followed that up with a win in his next race. PAINTED VALLEY also comes in off a win and would be no surprise here.

Race 5

GRACE’S DEVIL looked sharp, drawing off to win by five last time out and will be tough to handle again today. LOGAN CREEK was second best as the favorite in his last start and looks like the main...

RACE 1 5 Watching the Cashflo had trouble at the start on January 3 … his connex drop him down to the $3,500 level. 4 Im Delicious shoots for a second straight win … the 8YO mare will make her 4th start of the meet in this race. 6 Count Jesse Fast faltered against Im Delicious … Oscar Delgado rides as Omar Reyes takes another one.

RACE 2 1 Totti couldn’t handle tougher foes in the El Niño … his trainer/jockey duo won 4 races together Monday 2/8. 5 Stormy Cartel should fit better in this $00 claimer … the 6YO ran decently against allowance-level foes. 4 Eos Streakin Chicks makes his first start in the claiming ranks … he gets a new jock after a trouble trip 1/29.

RACE 3 8 Tiocorona Lace has found new life in South Florida … the 5YO gelding just missed a second straight victory. 4 Dashin Strutt beat Tiocorona Lace in his victory on December 29 … he should be a major player once more. 3 Hesa Trickie Lad bested Dashin Strutt in a sloppy track win 1/15 … he bounced a bit in his next start on 1/30.

RACE 4 4 Fishin Headlines has been a beaten favorite in two straight … Omar Reyes stays on for trainer Paul Griffin. 7 Aspecial Celebration tumbles in class for his third start of the meet … perhaps the drop will give him a shot. 3 Addicted to Danger also makes his 3rd start of the current campaign … the 11YO has but 1 win in 42 races.

RACE 5 8 Dashtowin settled for 3rd as a 7-5 favorite on January 9 … Cristian Esqueda will ride him back in this one. 4 Trisky Lover is back in for a tag...
