HAVRE DE GRACE IS HORSE OF THE YEAR; TEBOW WRAP UP

As a native Marylander and worked at Delaware Park for years, I obviously was glad to see Havre de Grace winning Horse of the Year.  Her Delaware races with Blind Luck were among the best events you’ll ever see.  She becomes the third straight female to capture Horse of the Year and the Delaware Handicap’s mantra for years has been “With a filly or mare, come to Delaware.”  Hard to believe the Delaware Handicap is still not a Grade i.

Rick Porter owns car dealerships in Delaware and Havre de Grace is a charming small town on the shores of the northern portion of the Chesapeake Bay.  It was also home to a great racetrack Havre de Grace Park, also known as The Graw from 1912 to 1950.

The roster of names that race there is as a great as any track in the first half of the 20th century including, CITATION, SEABISCUIT, SIR BARTON, MAN O’WAR and WAR ADMIRAL.

The track was squeezed for business and limited racing dates by Delaware Park and Garden State and then closed when purchased by the owners of Laurel and Pimlico.

Below is the Blood Horse story on the Horse of the Year.

TEBOW MANIA ENDS

With a shortage of TIM named horses, Idabet.com added several names to our roster of charges to help you win the $25 portion of our Tebow Mania bonus.  Three of those horses had PATRIOT in the name with 2 of them winning.  While it wasn’t the 316 hunch, a hunch is was just the same foreshadowing the results of the Broncos-Patriots game with a New England blow out.

Numerous of our promotion players bet on all 3 Patriot horses with Cm Patriot returning a healthy $16.40 in a QH race at Hialeah.  That alone made the promotion fun and along with another $25 bonus from Idabet.com, made it quite profitable for the day.  Hope you had fun with the promotion.

TEBOW MANIA TIM TIPS

As part of our TEBOW MANIA Promotion, we are offering a $25 cash bonus if any horse with the name TIM or TIMOTHY wins and you bet it to win.  I check the entries for Saturday, as best I could see and found only one horse with TIM in his name.  However, I found a few others that are related to the game or sort of TIM…so they will also qualify.  Of course, if you find one that I miss with TIM or TIMOTHY as part of the name, we’ll accept it:

TEBOW MANIA PAYS OFF FOR IDABET PLAYERS

The more astute horse racing fan uses past performances to make educated selections on the races, but they are also never immune from a good hunch.  Idabet.com, a United States based account deposit wagering service for online and phone betting on the races is giving their players the opportunity to jump on the Tim Tebow craze involving the numbers 3-1-6 with a series of promotions this Saturday, January 14.

In the past Tebow has painted 3:16 under his eyes and refers to the Bible verse John 3:16.  This past Sunday, Tebow threw for 316 yards in an overtime win in the wildcard playoffs and had an average 31.6 yards per catch.  Even more remarkable, it was reported that the last quarter hour TV ratings for the game was 31.6.  Tebow has been a lightning rod for his upfront religious beliefs and set Twitter ablaze after Sunday’s victory.

Idabet.com which takes bets daily on thoroughbred and harness racetracks worldwide will feature this Saturday (Tebow’s next playoff game) specials for hunch players to have the opportunity to get in on action with the following:

• Players who bet at least $316 in their Idabet.com account Saturday will receive an additional 1% cash rewards for the day.

• If you win a Trifecta wager (3-1-6 in exact order) on any race that takes place Saturday, you will not only win that bet, but Idabet.com will give the player an additional $100 (One per player).

•If you bet a horse to win, with part of its name containing Tim or Timothy, the bettor not only wins that bet if the horse wins, but gets a bonus $25 from Idabet.com (One player, any horse racing this Saturday)

“Racing has always been recognized as the one form of gambling where using your mind and research allows a bettor to improve their odds of winning.  However, we are always full of stories of hunches, lucky numbers or even dreams that create wild payoffs for many players.  With the Tim...

NO RACING AT AQUEDUCT ON TAP?

Reports today indicate that Genting, the owner of the new slots casino at Aqueduct has made a proposal to eliminate racing at the Big A and move the winter meet to Belmont Park.   Last week, they proposed a $4 billion complex at Aqueduct to add a full scale casino, hotel and the country’s largest convention center.

All of that would be good for racing as it could introduce hundreds of thousands of new fans to racing, especially if an effort is made to promote racing.

Now, I can envision million dollar purses enhanced by the casino being held at Belmont before an empty grandstand.  This is good for owners, but not for racing overall.  At some point with no fans and less bettors, states will stop subsidizing racing from casino revenues and doom the sport.

Racing has benefited from racinos, but they now must draw the line to protect the horse industry.

RACE TRACK NEWS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

The New Year means the return to the legislature in many states and an opportunity for horse racing to improve itself.  Adding casinos to the racing operations of course has been the most important actions for racing and we’ve been following what’s on tap for this year:

KENTUCKY:  Governor Beshear announced that this is the year to pass legislation to allow for a constitutional admendment to expand gambling in the state.  As usual pro-racing interests have lined up bills to add casinos to the state’s racetracks. Breeders have mounted a campaign that the nations top breeding industry is in trouble with New York expected to increase purses 40% this year due to slots at Aqueduct.

The legislation would require a statewide vote, so any help could be at least two years away.  Beshear did not outline any plan himself or what forms of gambling and their locales during his speech.

NEW YORK:  The Genting Company of Malaysia, operators of the new slots casino at Aqueduct has a working agreement in place with Governor Cuomo to built the country’s largest convention center at the Big A.  The slots added last fall have been a homerun and 2500 more games are on tap to open soon with purses up over 30% this month.  Genting wants to invest $4 billion into a complex including a 3000 room hotel.  They have proposed converting Aqueduct’s third floor meeting space into a table games casino as part of their efforts.

It is unclear though, if such an expansion of gambling will make it through the legislature and if it’s a constitutional change requiring passage over 2 years of the legislature and a statewide referendum.

Nonetheless, the success of the new casino is already sending shockwaves to casinos in nearby Connecticut, Atlantic City and Pennsylvania who have seen some impact and who can only wonder if expanded gambing in New York City will do their business.
