LES BOIS LEAD TO IDAHO RACING RESURGENCE

Gary and Jeralyn Messenger’s LAJOLLA FAMOSA victory in a division of the $24,000 Hadtobenuts Derby Trials on Friday at Sandy Downs, is just one of the bright spots of Idaho racing emerging from Idaho Falls.  Earlier in the card, WAYWARD WINGS had the fastest time of the three divisions of the $32,000 Hawthorne Futurity Trials.  Both stakes will be contested on closing night, Saturday, July 30.

Leading jockey Paul Greene guided Lajolla Famosa to his sixth career victory in twelve starts for the meet’s top conditioner Brett Vickery.  The 3-year-old Idaho-bred by Streakin Lajolla out of Go For Flame broke third and quickly took the lead to cover the 400-yard test in 19.639 seconds.  He paid $3.20 to win as the favorite.  Dan Moon, sponsor of the Derby saw his charge Hadtobewinner, the son of Hadtobenuts close to finish a half length back at 10 to 1 odds.

Moon had even better luck with Wayward Wings, the speediest in the Hawthorne Futurity Trials.  The daughter of Hadtobenuts went 350 yards in 17.588 seconds for her second score in four races this year to emerge as the favorite in the July 30 finals.  Once again, Brett Vickery saddled the race winner. The Idaho-bred paid $9.60 in easily beating runner up Lp Jesses Ace by 1 ¼ lengths.  That combination provided for some wild payoffs   Though going off at 7-1, Lp Jesses Ace paid $27.00 for place and created a $2 quinella that returned a whopping $235.60

Havre de Grace-Blind Luck VI headlines 74th renewal of Delaware Handicap

Stanton, Del., July 12, 2011 - The old racetrack adage from long ago says with a “filly or mare go to Delaware,” and the connections of the best fillies in the country, arguably the two best horse in training in the nation, are heeding that wisdom as the pair prepares to meet for the sixth time at the site where the rivalry began a year ago.  Havre de Grace, the current leading filly and mare in the nation, and Blind Luck, the 2010 3-year-old filly champion, are slated to meet again at Delaware Park in the Delaware Handicap.  Havre de Grace, locally-owned by Richard Porter’s Fox Hill Farm, and California invader Blind Luck, owned by Mark DeDomenico, John Carver, Peter Abruzzo and Jerry Hollendorfer, headline the 74th renewal of the $750,000 Grade II Delaware Handicap this Saturday.  The mile-and-a-quarter filly and mare summer classic has attracted a field of five.

More than prestige, money and bragging rights will be on the line as for the fourth consecutive time the Delaware Handicap has been designated as a “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup Challenge race, with the winner automatically qualifying for the Ladies’ Classic at Churchill Downs on November 4.

The rivalry began when the pair met in the Grade II Delaware Oaks last year, with Blind Luck edging out a nose victory over Havre de Grace.  Since then, they have met four times at venues across the country, with Havre de Grace winning two and Blind Luck winning one. The only time one did not win while facing each other was in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic at Churchill Downs last year, when Unrivaled Belle won, Blind Luck finished second and Havre de...

LES BOIS PARK GOES NATIONAL WITH IDABET.COM

FANS ARE THE WINNERS AS IDAHO RACING WORK TOGETHER

WATCH AND WAGER LES BOIS’ PARK LIVE HORSE RACES ON IDABET.COM

Last week before a banner crowd, live horse racing returned to Les Bois Park in Boise ending a three year hiatus.  This week, for the first time, Idaho players can watch and wager on Les Bois from any computer via Idabet.com, the online racing site of InterMountain Racing and Entertainment (IRE) and operators of Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls.

“We are so pleased to expand the reach of Idaho racing by adding Les Bois Park to all of our players at Idabet.com.  This is a golden opportunity to showcase the rebirth of racing in Idaho to the nation and to continue our efforts to grow the horse racing industry in the state,” said Melissa Bernard, co-owner of IRE.

Celebrating the start of its second year of operation, Idabet.com has players from across the country betting on more than 300 racetracks worldwide. With no racetrack casinos, minimal off track betting and a small population, Idaho racing has struggled to survive for years.  However, entities like Idabet.com and the return of Les Bois Park give hope for a new era to the sport of quarterhorse and thoroughbred racing.

“One of racing’s problems of the past has been reaching a large enough market to sustain the sport against so many other forms of gaming and entertainment.  In reality, most fans don’t have the time to make it to the track on every race day.  When those times arise, options such as Idabet.com bring new revenue to the industry on a daily basis year round,” said Bernard.

Fans can watch the races live from both Sandy Downs and Les Bois on the Idabet.com homepage and when they open an account, they can bet all the action.  Like the growth of poker online, track...
