RAINBOW PICK 6 TO 1311 WINNERS (4/25)

There were 1311 winning tickets Saturday on Gulfstream Park’s Rainbow Pick 6 with each worth $3279.00.  The carryover had grown since early February and had a mandatory payout Saturday for the 10¢ wager.

The bet brought some needed excitement to day in and day out racing cards and offered players like you a real opportunity to make multiple selections at a very low investment.  More than $5 million was bet into the pool and helped busines soar 80% at the South Florida track proving there’s still plenty of excitement in racing.

$5 MILLION JACKPOT SATURDAY AT GULFSTREAM

$5 MILLION UP FOR GRABS TODAY….BET BY 4PM EDT (4/23)

Reprinted from the South Florida Sun Sentinel….Gulfstream will be the center of the racing universe Saturday, ironically the only Saturday of the season without a stakes race.

The attraction is the mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool, which has been building since last hit on Feb. 16 and will go into Saturday with a carryover of $1.4 million. As much as $5 million is expected to be in the pool by the approximate 4:15 p.m. post-time for the seventh race, the first of the Rainbow 6 races.

Multi-million dollar Pick 6 pools are commonplace, especially in California, where the bet is more popular than elsewhere. However, there is a crucial difference with the Rainbow 6. The minimum wager is 10 cents as opposed to $2. This allows bettors with limited bankrolls to participate.

A ticket with two selections in each race costs $128 at Hollywood Park. At Gulfstream, the same combination costs $6.40. Three horses in each race costs $72.90 instead of $1,458.

Prominent owner Jess Jackson passed away yesterday after a lengthy illness.  His fame will long live in the offspring of his great horses Curlin who was bred to his great mare Rachel Alexander recently.

DELTA DOWNS TO RUN $1 MILLION 2-YEAR-OLD RACE…Delta Downs will run the $1 million Delta Downs Jackports for 2-year-olds on November 19.  The big race is an example what slots can do for a racetrack.  The track recently completed one its best meets in years under the direction of one of the nation’s top executives Chris Warren.  Very few tracks continue to show dedication to racing, but Warren has long been committed to putting on the best show possible.  Many racing experts feel, even if slots were to come to Texas, the bar has been set so high by Warren at Delta Downs that fans will continue to flock to the Louisiana track.

Uncle Mo Works, Jones back at Delaware, Maryland Icon Dies (4/20)

Trainer Todd Pletcher did an easy workout with Uncle Mo in preparation for the Kentucky Derby on Tuesday morning.  Remember, Secretariat finished third in the Wood Memorial as the heavy favorite before electrifying the crowd on Derby Day.  Pletcher who reported his star colt was diagnosed with an infection right after the Wood should aleviate concerns that his horse is still the real thing.

Delaware Park my home for many years has announced the veteran trainer Larry Jones will once again be conditioning horses at the slote enriched track opening May 1.  Jones retired for one year, but apparently got the bug and was back in action with 18 wins at Oaklawn Park this winter.  Training again for car magnate Rick Porter, Jones scored with Havre de Grace in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom and took home the gold with Joyful Victory in the Apple Blossom.  That filly is now headed for the Kentucky Oaks.

You can bet Delaware Park right here on Idabet.com.  Delaware offers real interesting racing because stables from all over the country converge there.  Sure it’s tougher to handicap with so many charges never facing each other before, but at the same time, you can find some real sleepers at great payoffs.

As a Baltimore native, I lament the passing of former mayor and Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer this week.  Schaefer was always a strong supporter of racing and in fact, the growth of the Preakness crowds over the years is really is doing.  The Preakness was always well attended by racing and casual fans to the tune of about 45-50,000.  But when Schaefer, as Mayor organized a Preakness Celebration committee is when it became a real national event.  It took off in the early and mid 70’s by promoting the infield.

Though the infield at times has nothing to do with racing, its original growth by Schaefer truly made the Preakness a big deal.  He was a mover and shaker in Maryland, but really cared...
