Race 1: Wan Chai Gap Handicap
#11 Centenary Ibis slots in light and gets his chance again after cover ground last start from the wide draw. Gate four gives him a better opportunity here to get off the mark. #1 Off The Reel turned in a career-best runner-up effort last time out. Zac Purton takes the ride and improvement is expected. Only queries are the wide gate and top weight. #4 President Star draws favourably for Joao Moreira. #9 Virtus Star is better than his recent form suggests. Don’t discount.
Race 2: Victoria Gap Handicap
#3 Loyal Baby is third-up and looks well placed to go on with things here. He’s got race-fitness on his side now as well as a good gate. #4 Jolly Honour is nothing short of consistent. He only needs to run his usual race to be in with a chance again. #7 Ever Laugh has a bit of class and should be respected from gate four. He can finish strongly and does shape as a player here. #1 Happy Land gets Zac Purton aboard. A form turnaround wouldn’t surprise.
Race 3: Mount Gough Handicap
Ricky Yiu is coming to form and #3 Joyful Win is one of his smart short-course sprinters who appears to be doing the same. He’s had three runs under his belt now and doesn’t meet overly strong opposition here. Suspect he can sit close to the speed and give this lot a run for their money. #11 Travel Datuk has returned to a competitive mark. Expect a big finish. #2 Wild West Wing is a solid performer. Gate one suits. #1 Happy Tango can play catch me if you can. He’s got speed.
Race 4: Mount Davis Handicap
#3 Leap Of Faith loves Happy Valley and he appears primed to put in a big performance here. He was a dominant three length victor over this course and distance last term and it wouldn’t surprise to see him add another win here. #8 Savvy Kingman won well last start and he remains a chance yet again. Only concern is the rise in grade but the retention of Joao Moreira’s services bear close watching. #2 Tianchi Monster can figure from gate four. He’s proven himself against stronger company. #5 Helene Allibor is next best.
Race 5: Mount Kellett Handicap
#7 Prance Dragon clocked a seriously fast closing split last start and any improvement off that suggests that he’s going to be challenging this group. Derek Leung hops up and as a two-time Class 3 winner, he rates as the one to beat. #8 Happy Time is racing in career-best form and was a winner three starts ago. He’s a fast-closer who rates as the main danger here. #4 Amigos Giggle is progressing. He draws well and should get an opportunity. #2 Smart Leader bears close watching with Zac Purton up. Keep safe.
Race 6: High West Handicap
#1 Sparkling Dragon should improve sharply with a return to the city circuit. He owns a slick personal best here and gate one should give him every chance close to the speed. #2 Sight Success is looking for back-to-back wins after his strong all-the-way success last start. He’s in-form. #6 Drops Of God is also in search of consecutive wins. Joao Moreira takes the reins and he deserves respect. #8 Transcendent is next best. A fast-run-race will enhance his chances.
Race 7: Victoria Gap Handicap
#8 Durham Star receives a welcome step up in trip. This looks a positive for him as he’s been run off his feet at times racing over six and seven furlongs. #7 Breeze Of Spring draws well and is racing in career-best form with a win and two placings from his last three starts. #12 Viva Popcorn rises in grade but gets in light as he bids for back-to-back wins. He gets his chance again and his ascent up the handicap does not look over yet. Expect #3 Red Majesty finds the front and takes a bit of running down from there.
Race 8: Lung Fu Shan Handicap
#6 Solid Impact represents a bit of a value here. He raced without luck on debut but at 41/1 he did still manage to close off quite nicely. Expect another step forward from him here, especially from the inside gate which should offer him every opportunity. #3 Seven Heavens is after back-to-back wins. He’s racing in sublime form and consecutive wins wouldn’t surprise. #12 My Ecstatic slots in light. He’s racing well and Vincent Ho’s booking suggests a win is very close. #1 Scores Of Fun is next best.
Race 9: Lung Fu Shan Handicap
#7 Gracylove is in superb form and he appears to be progressing into a very tidy horse. He’s in search of back-to-back wins and his latest effort suggests there is much, much more to come. #9 Special M closed nicely for fifth last start. He appears to be taking the necessary steps forward. #2 Diamond Brilliant is in career-best form with three wins from his last four starts. Zac Purton sticks aboard and he commands respect. #8 Sergeant Pepper grabbed third on debut. He’s a nice little horse who deserves respect here.
