PICKS BY RICK K.
Race 1:
#5 Genuine Lover – his last workout was as fast as open 6.5 claimers have run
on other days…Illinois-bred could be decent runner throughout the region
#4 Lil League Man – taking the other first-timer to run 2nd – those that have
raced do not impress
#6 Zion’s View – think this is a good horse to bet against…to me he runs better
with blinkers on, yet trainer takes them off
Race
3:
#3 Mmmthatfeelsgood – ran well off layoff at Assinaboia, and workouts look
decent coming into this race
#5 Joyzey Billy – very wide throughout last race, should improve with better
post here
Race
5:
#4 Maravillosa Marcos – think the old-timer comes running by all of them
late…rest of field suspect at this distance
#7 Luv Dragon – should stalk the front runners and perhaps take the lead
turning for home
Race
7:
#5 Chumaree in Motion – very wide in last, should be tough here
#3 Arbon – Idaho-bred could be out winging it on the front end and hope to hang
on in stretch
Race
8:
#1 Total Fabrication – Won off layoff at Turf Paradise when trained by another
“Treasure†– should sit a good trip just off the pace and hugging the rail
#3 Road to the Pulpit – last year started off with a short race and then won
easily stretching out…same formula this year
#7 Scatmandu – putting the blinkers back on, which he seems to like…could be
the front runner
Race
9:
#4 Wups – carried extremely wide in last race, should be tough here, but price
will be short
#5 R T M Mohawk – won the other qualifier for this race, and time was a tad
slower than Wups, but this horse had a dream trip, Wups didn’t
Race
10:
#1 Maltese Tiger – loves to be in the exacta (23 out of 33 races) and likes the
distance (9 out of 11 in the exacta)…don’t like the fact that he ran a lot of
his better races when trained by “drug†trainer
#6 Inspector Shamus – wide on turn in last, thinking the new jockey will get
more run out of him than the Irishman did in the last…showed good speed
previously at Portland Meadows…
