Racing Suspended for 14 days at Sunland Park, January 22, 2016

We want our IdaBet players to know that Sunland Park’s racing has been suspended for 14 days by racetrack officials, the New Mexico Racing Commission, and the New Mexico Livestock Board after they learned a fifth horse tested positive for the neurologic strain of the equine herpesvirus (EHV-1).

Rick Baugh, General Manager of Sunland, said in a release issued late Friday,“In the interest of equine safety, Sunland Park Racetrack is postponing racing for an initial period of 14 days.”  “I’d like to thank all the agencies involved, as well as our horsemen, for their cooperation and support as we take a proactive approach to protect our horses and make a quick return to live racing.”

The 14 day suspension is subject to reset every time a positive case is confirmed.

Everyone here at IdaBet.com sends well wishes to all the connections at Sunland Park, the owners & trainers, and those equine athletes affected in this outbreak.
