Race 1: Chengdu Handicap (1st Section)
#5 Good News looks set to run well on debut. He caught the eye against a strong bunch on the dirt in a barrier trial and this looks a suitable starting point for him. #1 My Ecstatic can roll forward from gate one. Strong booking with the apprentice engaged here. #9 Touch Faith mixes his form but does have some ability. This isn’t an overly strong contest and he commands respect with Joao Moreira up. #4 Whiskey Neat doesn’t win out of turn but he is at least relatively consistent.
Race 2: Chengdu Handicap (2nd Section)
#9 Durham Star has more ability than his record lets on. Suspect he needed a bit of time to mature and the booking of Zac Purton here bears close watching. #2 Lord Thunder won nicely on debut. He draws well and should be handy in the run, if not in the lead. #11 Monster Kaka mixes his form but is up to this grade. He gets his chance with the light weight. #5 Lucky Archangel trialled well. He’s next best against lot, the booking of Karis Teetan helps on debut.
Race 3: Nanning Handicap
#4 Shanghai Dragon can roll forward and play catch me if you can. He’s a gritty on-pacer who could prove tough to reel in, especially from the good gate. #8 Winning Steed has the ability he’s just struggling to piece it all together. Still, strong booking of the in-form Matthew Chadwick has him in with a chance, especially from gate two. #2 Super Fast is capable and pairs with Zac Purton. He owns a smart personal best over the course and distance. #1 Speed Fay Fay is next best. Don’t discount.
Race 4: Shenyang Handicap
#1 Daily Charm closed off nicely for second first-up this campaign. He’ll relish the step up in trip and does shape as they one they all have to beat. #3 Viva Popcorn will prove a hurdle. He’s a fast-finishing chestnut who is suited to the riding style of Karis Teetan. #13 Righteous Win draws well. He also looks suited with the added distance. #7 Figures Two pairs with Joao Moreira. He’ll get back and run on so gate 14 of 14 is no issue. Expect a big finish.
Race 5: Shanghai Handicap
#8 Nervous Witness did nothing but dazzle on debut. He scored imperiously and another win looks very gettable here, especially down the straight again. He just needs to handle the class-rise. #7 Ian has ability. He can bounce back to form here with a return to the straight. #1 Carroll Street is a three-time winner from four starts in Hong Kong. He has a proven record down the straight and is a worthy challenger in this grade. #5 Propice is better than his record suggests. Must include.
Race 6: Jinan Handicap
#8 Thunderstrike boasts a strong record across four starts in Hong Kong. He’s been solid and from the good gate here he gets his chance to break through. He looks wound up enough for this first-up. #1 Casimiro steps back to Class 4 where he is a three-time winner. He gets a handy five pounds off thanks to apprentice Jerry Chau and his only obstacle is the wide ally. #2 Romantic Combo is consistent without winning. #9 Kung Fu Tea slots in light and deserves respect.
Race 7: Beijing Handicap
#4 Mister Snowdon was unsuited by the slow pace first-up. He’s a serious talent who appears to have come even further in his trackwork. He races well second up and this contest should be no exception. #6 Beauty Fit is somewhat enigmatic but on his day, he is pure class. #2 Master Montaro has a stack of ability and warrants plenty of respect here. His only issue is his racing pattern, which can cause him some grief dependent on where he settles in the run. #1 Californiadeepshot should roll forward. Must respect.
Race 8: G3 National Day Cup Handicap
#7 Voyage Warrior draws well and looks set to roll to the front here. The blinkers go on to sharpen him up and his best form down the straight has him winning this, it’s just a matter of if he can recapture it. #4 Computer Patch won this race last year. He’s well weighted and in with his chance. #9 Super Wealthy shouldn’t be underestimated. He slots in light with a strong hope. #6 Lucky Patch has the stand-side draw. He’s classy and is proving a sprinter with a future.
Race 9: Chongqing Handicap
#11 Win Win closed impressively first-up, breaking 23 (seconds) for his final sectional. Suspect he’ll have come on from that run and with Alexis Badel engaged here, he shapes as the one to beat. #3 All For St Paul’s should cross the field to try and lead. #2 Serious Liaison has class and is a two-time winner from his last four starts. He appears to have held his condition and deserves respect here. #5 Tianchi Monster pairs with Zac Purton. The good gate suits and he’s competitive in his spot.
Race 10: Tianjin Handicap
#4 Quadruple Double performed well first-up to finish third at the Valley. He’ll have come on from that run and from gate three here he gets his chance. #5 Winning For All gets Zac Purton. Gate one suits and this galloper owns a smart personal best over the course and distance. #2 Drops Of God can bounce back. His last run was a forgive and chances are he finds the front here. #3 The Golden Scenery can finish off strongly. He deserves respect here.
