Bret Calhoun Barn Continues Success, Winning Thursday Feature at Remington Park with Night Strike

Trainer Bret Calhoun continued his red hot streak Thursday night at Remington Park, getting his fifth winner of the meet from only 16 starters as he took the featured eighth race with Night Strike.

The 3-year-old colt was sent off at 2-1 odds and held off Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Famer Donnie Von Hemel’s late-charging favorite Rowdy The Warrior by a head. Rowdy The Warrior also went off at 2-1, but had slightly more money wagered on him than the winner. Call a Cop at 5-2 got up for third another three lengths back.

Night Strike paid $6.80 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show across the board. He earned $24,922 from a purse of $43,350, increasing his lifetime bankroll past the $100,000 mark to $119,302. The sophomore Oklahoma-bred son of Liaison, out of the Smart Strike mare Concert Strike has now won 2-of-11 in his career. He covered the 1 mile-70 yards in 1:41.84 seconds over a fast track.

Horsemen’s Standings

Asmussen had a training double with jockey Ramon Vazquez aboard both winners… Vazquez posted a riding triple, winning another race on Thursday for trainer Boyd Caster. The hat trick tied Vazquez with Richard Eramia for second place in the jockey standings. They each have nine victories apiece for the meet, two behind top rider David Cabrera with 11.

Ghost Dance, Ideal Feeling fastest in NYSS at Batavia

Ghost Dance, Ideal Feeling fastest in NYSS at Batavia

Sep 6, 2018

Three divisions of 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings went postward at Batavia Downs on Wednesday (Sept.5) to compete for the $117,600 in purses up for grabs as well as the last chance to accrue available points to make the $225,000 final for this group.

In the first $39,200 division, Ghost Dance (American Ideal-Epoxy Queen) pulled the upset at 9-1 and closed hard to do it. .

The heavy post time favorite Topville Olympian (Brett Miller) shot right to the front and took the field to the half in :55.3. There, Rockapelo (Jason Bartlett) pulled first up with Ghost Dance (Scott Zeron) on his back as they heaed into the turn. Rockapelo cleared quickly around the tiring Topville Olympian, whose gap then allowed Ghost Dance to drop back to the pylons behind the new leader to save ground. These two stood pat until the top of the lane where Zeron pulled Ghost Dance and paced by Rockapelo at the wire winning by a length in 1:52.

“The race set up well for us and he got brave with the two-hole trip. And then he paced strong in the lane” said Zeron after the race.

It was the fourth win of the year for Ghost Dance ($20.00) and it pushed his earnings to $98,002 for owner Millar Farm. Rick Zeron trains the winner.

The second $39,200 split was won by Ideal Feeling (American Ideal-Feelinglikeastar) who made a statement move at the half and then stretched out from there.

Ostro Hanover (Louis Roy) rushed to the front and set early splits of :27 and :56.3. But before they hit that second timer, Ideal Feeling (Jason Bartlett) was out and rolling and took the front by the time they hit the third turn and from there, the race was history. Ideal Feeling opened up a three length advantage as he hit the third quarter in 1:24 and then rounded the final bend and cruised home...

Yonkers Peek At Program- Thursday, September 6th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players

(permitted to watch football around this product).

3RD RACE – (6) UPFRONT SUPERSONIC has been collecting paydays at a bottom claiming level. That ought to make her competent as any in formless foray.

4TH RACE – (3) BETTERTHANBRIE couldn’t hack sire stakes competition and returns as Excelsiorite. Speed-tightened after requalifying, so worth tepid shot.

5TH RACE – (5) SHOW THE FASHION takes the Nestea Plunge from a 25- claimer down to rock-bottom condition. Made ugly break first off claim, however.

6TH RACE – (5) FASHION CREDITOR did not embarrass with adult-table crowd, though ain’t gonna refuse class respite here. Abbreviated field, worth shot.

7TH RACE – (8) DEDI’S DRAGON did not disappoint as ‘peeked’ winner in last after getting memo late. There’s no way of knowing if gets involved from here.

8TH RACE – (1) LINE DANCER was poor with repeat nod last out, a pocket fourth. We’re cynical, but wins draw in spongy opener of NYSS Mike Cohen Pace.
