2018 Dubai Racing Carnival – Thursday, March 1st

We are happy to offer our IdaBet players the race cards for the ninth meeting of the 2018 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

After today, the next Carnival meeting is Super Saturday which takes place on Saturday 10th March.

Meydan Selections:

The rail on the dirt track at Meydan is generally the place to be but this advantage seemed to be even more acute last week. It was impossible to close down the outer of the track and the three winners in the dirt all made every yard of the running against the rail. It will be interesting to see how the track plays this week in something of a low key week before we get to Super Saturday on March 10.

Just one winner last week in the form of Ertijaal, taking the season tally to 15 at this year’s Carnival. Here are four more selections:

10:05am (ET) Meydan: Zaman

I am taking the view that this horse can reverse recent form with Wasim on the basis that this trip of a mile will suit him a good deal better than the seven furlongs he raced over last time. He boasts strong European form – his second to Expert Eye at Goodwood stands out – and he did shape very well last time; finishing well having been further back than was ideal. This trip looks spot on for him and he will be hard to beat.

11:15am (ET) Meydan: Top Score

Ground loss in a race is one of the most underappreciated adversities that horses face in races and Top Score was undoubtedly a big sufferer on his latest start. Forced wide throughout, he gave away a lot of ground when finishing...

Yonkers Peek At Program For Thursday, March 1st

Some insights into tonight’s first-of-the-month racing program for our IdaBet.com players:

1ST RACE – (1) CADILLAC PHIL does not have to win this race, but after three seven-holes and an eight-ball, gets first gaze in first race of month. Perhaps.

2ND RACE – (2) ACEFORTYFOURAMANDA has some ‘splainin’ to do, breaking at 3-5. Repeat ‘peek’ with solid resume, minds manners and beats these.

5TH RACE – (1) DEUCES FOR CHARITY draws us back in one more time. Chased odds-on winner from pocket two back, no such impediment opposing now.

6TH RACE – (6) BUNGALOW BILL N just slithers under monetary ceiling for class dip. Solid third hanging around quick mile in latest, ought to be good fit.

7TH RACE – (5) HIGHVIEW CONALL N sees first non seven-/eight-hole in month, which logic dictates enhances his chances.  If close enough, good enough.

10TH RACE – (1) PANCHESTER UNITED stole one versus lesser by virtue of cheap half. Goes back up ladder, nodded in finale though repeat won’t be facile.

——

$2 +/- (thru Mon., Feb. 26) – 41 wins ($413.10)

from 228 ($456) selex (-$42.90, getting snapped at wire too often for own good)

highest-priced winner – MACHTU N ($33.80)

lowest-priced winner – SOTO ($2.70)

JUST A TYPICAL TUESDAY NIGHT 61-1 SOLO STORY

JUST A TYPICAL TUESDAY NIGHT 61-1 SOLO STORY

Feb 28, 2018

A week ago, Solo Story missed a hard-charging neck at 40-1.

Tuesday night (Feb. 27th), he didn’t miss at all.

Try $125.50, Yonkers Raceway’s largest win mutuel of the season. Bumping up from the $15,000 claimers to the $20,000 fraternity, the 61-1 Solo Story (catch-driver Larry Stalbaum) closed from seventh from in the line, winning the $13,000, eighth-race pace in a season’s-best 1:54.3.

Starting from post position No. 7 in the field of nine, Solo Story was barely in the same area code—eighth, 14 lengths out—early. He remained eighth (though closer) at both the half and three-quarters before uncorking his rally from seventh off the final turn.

He actually won going away, beating Wild Again (catch-driver Anthony Napolitano) by a length. Adonis Bay (Eric Goodell) was third, with Inspiration View (Jordan Stratton) fourth to complete the gimmicks.

For Solo Story, a 5-year-old Bettor’s Delight gelding owned by Jesse McAssey and trained by Jaymes McAssey, it was his second win in six seasonal starts.  The exacta paid $599, with triple returned $4,971 and the superfecta paid $40,448 (base $2 payout, 10-cent ticket worth $2,022.40).

The Pick 5 is a 50-cent base wager comprising races 6 through 10 (for these 10-race cards, ordinarily it’s races 7 through 11). It has no consolation payoff, meaning if no one selects all five winners (as was the case Tuesday night), the entire pool (minus takeout) moves to the next racing program.
