RACE 1
TIGER LISA is a three-year-old taking on older runners but she drops to the bottom and hooks a fairly weak field. DOWNCITY is a six-year-old mare with just one win but she has some decent form on the all-weather surfaces and is the one to beat. PRINCESS HEART is a contender.

RACE 2
TIZWAYORTHEHIGHWAY failed as the favorite last out but gets blinkers for this one. She has the speed to lead all the way with Sarvis picking up the mount. NO SOCKS MAUK beat the top pick last out and is again the main competition. RUNABOUT drops in class for Wes Ward and has to be respected.

RACE 3
J DUB is winless in 20 starts but comes off of a couple of decent efforts over this track and drops in class. He can beat this bunch. REAL DISCREET also drops to the bottom and will be tough at this level. AUSTIN RAY fits in here.

RACE 4
TETRADRACHM is a nine-year-old veteran with career earnings of more than $450,000. He comes off of a narrow loss last out and has the speed to be on or near the lead throughout tonight. MR...

College basketball fans know what March Madness is. But what is “Carryover Craziness”? That’s the phrase one might use for what the faithful at the Meadowlands will experience Friday night (Post time, 6:35 p.m.).

For only the second time this year, the Pick-5 (Races 3 through 7) wasn’t hit in its most recent offering, which will lead to a carryover of $30,202 heading into Friday night, when the ‘payoff’ leg of the wager will be shown on ‘Meadowlands Harness Live’ on SNY (SportsNet New York) at 9 p.m.

“The last time we had a carryover in the Pick-5, it was $28,786,” said Jason Settlemoir, the track’s chief operating officer and general manager. “We then wagered $224,986 in new money for a total pool of over $250,000. That’s why we are once again offering a guaranteed pool of $125,000, in partnership with the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering, in the hopes of creating another giant pot for our fans, who love to go for the big score.”

On that Jan. 12 card, there were many winning tickets as three favorites won during the sequence, yet the payoff for a 50-cent wager was still a hefty $2,820.

The start of the Pick-5 (Race 3) has a post time of 7:25 p.m.

In addition to the final Pick-5 leg, the first two legs (Races 8 and 9) of the track’s signature wager, the 50-Cent Pick-4 – which sports a $50,000 guarantee and low 15 percent takeout – will also be seen on the live broadcast, hosted by Dave Brower, along with Dave Little, Bob “Hollywood” Heyden and track announcer Ken Warkentin. Post time for the eighth race is 9:22 p.m.

The rail on the dirt track at Meydan is generally the place to be but this advantage seemed to be even more acute last week. It was impossible to close down the outer of the track and the three winners in the dirt all made every yard of the running against the rail. It will be interesting to see how the track plays this week in something of a low key week before we get to Super Saturday on March 10.

I am taking the view that this horse can reverse recent form with Wasim on the basis that this trip of a mile will suit him a good deal better than the seven furlongs he raced over last time. He boasts strong European form – his second to Expert Eye at Goodwood stands out – and he did shape very well last time; finishing well having been further back than was ideal. This trip looks spot on for him and he will be hard to beat.
