Yonkers Peek At Program- Friday, January 19th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players:

1ST RACE – (4) BUGSY MAGUIRE hits town from Dover priced to move. Delaware lines don’t always translate here, but let us gaze what he brings to table.

2ND RACE – (4) SPORTY SPOOK A ought to have no visible alibi dipping down the ladder. Went nowhere fast from outer draw six nights ago, handles these.

4TH RACE – (4) HOT DEUCE continues our ‘go fourth’ theme for evening after an even effort in season’s debut. Free-legged lad taken to be more aggressive.

5TH RACE – (7) DRUNKEN DESIRE A was put in for this number first day of season and held sway. See mundane group here, price if he overcomes impost.

6TH RACE – (4) FRANNY LOVE DAT is another edition of ‘four-play’ this evening. Lass won at generous mutuel last time this level from exact same venue.

11TH RACE – (3) PEMBROKE WILDCAT comes off rare flat effort as fave in latest. Best getaway in some time for confirmed off-pace number has him closer.

12TH RACE – (5) PRETTY IMAGE was four-eyeballed in distaff derby last week, offering squat. That race didn’t fill, so ‘peeked’ going down ladder in finale.

——

$2 +/- (thru Tue., Jan. 16) – 12 wins ($157.20)

from 48 ($96) selex (+$61.20, I’m as surprised as anyone)

highest-priced winner – MORE THAN MANY ($21.80)

lowest-priced winner – OZONE BLUE CHIP ($4.60)

Want To Bet on Multi-Race, Check Out Meadowlands

While wagering in general remained strong at the Meadowlands last weekend (Jan. 12-13), players were especially fired up when it came time to play the track’s popular Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers.

The Friday Pick 5 had a pool that swelled to $253,772, with interest in the wager piqued due to a $28,786 carryover from the prior race card. The five-bagger has a 50-cent base bet and a low takeout of 15 percent (which the carryover is not subject to). The Pick 5 saw three winning favorites but the payoff was still a handsome $2,820.

The next night saw the bettors pour $45,432 into the Pick 5 pool, and those who had a winning ticket cashed $9,653, as only one post-time public choice visited the winner’s circle.

“We are extremely happy with our multi-race wagers,” said track chief operating officer and general manager Jason Settlemoir. “The Pick 4 pools have exploded, averaging over $80,000 the last two weekends, compared to $64,000 the previous four Fridays and Saturdays. Of course, we were thrilled with our Friday Pick 5 carryover. The players response to these low takeout wagers has been enthusiastic, to say the least.”

While not a multi-race bet, there figures to be plenty of interest in the Late 20-Cent Jackpot Super High Five when racing resumes Friday night. That wager, which requires one to be a single-ticket holder of the top five finishers in the evening’s last race, sports a carryover of $68,553.

Some other wagering notes from last weekend:

  • The Early Daily Double pools averaged over $33,500
  • Friday night’s fourth race saw an Exacta pool of $87,142 and a Trifecta of $60,214
  • Total wagering over the weekend was $5.25 million, or better than $2.6...

Frost Wise edges Riot Worthy By A Nose In Exciting Bay Ridge

The fourth running of the $100,000 Bay Ridge was worth the wait. After being rescheduled twice from its original date on December 29 because of live racing cancellations, fans witnessed an exciting prolonged stretch duel as Frost Wise benefitted from a favorable head bob to beat Riot Worthy by a nose in the 1 1/8-mile contest for older fillies and mares in a final time of 1:53.89 on Thursday at Aqueduct Racetrack.
George and Stephanie Autry’s Frost Wise settled into second position on the rail behind frontrunner Frostie Anne, who led the field of four through fractions of 23.47 seconds for the quarter-mile and 47.72 for the half. The Michael Dilger-trained Frost Wise moved up to challenge Frostie Anne around the final turn, with Riot Worthy following her on the outside, creating a three-way duel. At the eighth pole, jockey Kendrick Carmouche urged Frost Wise to a slim lead, battling with Riot Worthy and trading bobs several times in the stretch before getting up just in time for the win.
“It got a little tight, but that’s race riding. That’s what the game is for. Mike told me to break good because we were breaking from the inside. We hustled a little and Junior [Alvarado, aboard No. 3, Frostie Anne] wanted it more than me, so I let Junior go and let him sit on the [lead],” said Carmouche, who celebrated his 34th birthday on Thursday.
“Mike said she doesn’t close too much, but she did today because they bumped her a little at the quarter pole and squeezed her and she wanted to fight more. I just put my head down and rode her to the wire and we got the head bob today.”
Off as the 7-5 favorite, Frost Wise paid $4.80 on a $2 win bet. This was her second straight win, and third in her 10-race career, bringing her career earnings to $187,738.
“I was surprised with this filly. On the turn she battled...

Bombshell part of veteran field in Sunday’s Ladies Handicap

A seven-horse field will look to pick up black type for the first time in the new campaign in the 147th running of the $100,000 Ladies Handicap for fillies and mares 4-years-old and up on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Carded as Race 8, the 1 1/8-mile route is the second of two stakes on the day’s card, joining the rescheduled $100,000 Alex M. Robb for New York-bred 4-year-olds and up in Race 3.

Team Valor International’s Bombshell will return to stakes company for the first time since running sixth in the Grade 1 Beldame on September 30 at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old Bellamy Road mare has run third in optional claimers in back-to-back starts, including a seven-furlong effort on December 22 at Aqueduct.

Trained by Jimmy Jerkens, Bombshell has two wins and two runner-up finishes in five starts at more than a mile, with the only out-of-the-money finish coming in the Beldame, which was contested at the Ladies distance.

Jockey Junior Alvarado, who rode Bombshell last out, will have the return call from the outside post carrying the co-highweight of 117 pounds.

Inconclusive has the benefit of experience winning a stakes, having captured the Northbound Pride Oaks and TaWee in back-to-back races in 2016. Trainer Gary Contessa will see the 5-year-old Include mare make her third consecutive stakes start, drawing post 3 with Jeremy Rose aboard carrying 115 pounds.

Majestic Angel finished third in the Avers Wexler Memorial on September 9 at Arlington before running second against allowance company on November 15. The Majestic Warrior mare ended her 2017 campaign with a seventh-place effort in the Blushing K.D. on December 16 at Fair Grounds.

The Eric Reed trainee will make her Big A debut from the rail with jockey Paco Lopez carrying 117 pounds.

Trainer Linda Rice will saddle a pair of entries, including Crimson Frost, who ran sixth last out...

Idaho Reopens Debate to Legalize Slot Machine-like Horse Racing Terminals

Idaho Reopens Debate to Legalize Slot Machine-like Horse Racing Terminals

Jan 18, 2018

Idaho has added “historical” or “instant” horse racing machines to its wish list. The horse-race betting machines are according to Operators, Pari-mutuel betting terminals that allow players to place bets on replays of horse races that have already been run.

According to the latest news, a bill that would call for the legalization of horse-race betting machines has been recently introduced to the state. The Idaho Attorney General’s Office filed an opinion, arguing that the legalization of these machines maybe unconstitutional.

Idaho lawmakers are reopening a debate to legalize horse-race betting machines throughout the state. The recent move came almost 3 years after the Idaho Supreme Court repealed the authorization for the machines in 2015. The proponents of the initiative believe that the legalization of the horse-race betting machines could financially support the decades-long horse racing tradition. It is not a secret that the horse racing industry has started to wane over the past few years due to increased gaming competition in the state such as Tribal Gaming, and the Idaho State Sponsored Lottery.  Proponents of the initiative believe that horse racing should be allowed to exist since it was the first legal gaming in the state and has been injured by the introduction of the Lottery and Tribal Gaming.  Proponents argue that Historical Racing is legal Pari-mutuel wagering but is packaged in a more innovative way to attract new customers.

The industry is still on life support, desperately seeking some help due to other gaming venues that have been allowed to evolve and operate in the state.  Proponents want a fair and level playing field and believe there is room for all to co-exist.
