BLAKEMORE TAKES EARLY LEAD IN ISLE INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR SERIES

Mar 12, 2016

We want our IdaBet players to know that on a festive Saturday (March 12) evening under clear skies and flags from 11 different nations gracing the Pompano Park winner’s circle, the Isle International Amateur Driving Championship got underway with drivers from nine European countries, New Zealand and the United States in the limelight.
New Zealand’s Danny Blakemore, a winner with the eight year-old pacing mare Head First in the second of four divisions, is the current leader in the competition while Germany’s Michael Gutsche is next after he drove the 10 year-old trotter Play Fair to a 1:59 win.
Russia’s Ivan Serik ranks third after the first night’s action after rallying late with the seven year-old trotter Bad Angel for a photo finish victory in 1:59.3 and rewarding his faithful with a $44.60 mutuel.
Hungary’s Andrea Fazekas is next after having kicked the amateur series off with a handy win with the the five year-old trotting mare Princess Crown in 1:56.4.
Dein Spriggs (U.S.A.) is next followed by Johann Preinling, Jr. while Jaime Bassa and Enrico Colombino are in a dead-heat for the seventh spot. Denmark’s Michael Holmer is next while Norway’s Nils Oliv-Holm and Finland’s Taipo Hoikka complete the roster in the first of two rounds.
Indeed, the festivities kicked off with Ms. Fazekas giving Princess Crown picture perfect handling to score a two length win over pacesetting Baby Boy Grin (Dein Spriggs) in the aforementioned time of 1:56.4.

China Dream Gives Great Gift In Buffalo Raceway Feature

We wanted you to know about the excitement of owners Jack and Maria Rice as they celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on Saturday night (March 12) and their pacer, China Dream, gave them a great gift by posting a 1-3/4 length victory over Babe’s I Scoot in the featured $10,000 Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway.
China Dream covered the mile in a seasonal best 1:54.4 and it was the fast clocking of the meet at Buffalo Raceway.
Getting a perfect trip from driver Jack Flanigen, China Dream rolled three-wide down the backstretch the final time and overtook the pace-setting Western Alumni at the top of the stretch. In the drive to the wire, it wasn’t a matter of who was going to win but just by how much.
China Dream used a throttled down last split of 27.3 and that was more than enough to secure the win. Babe’s I Scoot (Jim Morrill Jr.) took second place while Burton Blue Chip (Lee Dahn) rode the pylons for third.
It was the third victory in six tries for China Beach in 2016, increasing his bankroll to $19,900 this year and $109,493 lifetime. The 5-year-old gelding (If I Can Dream-China Art) is trained by Maria Rice.
Morrill Jr. had five more wins in the sulky while Ray Fisher Jr. and Jack Flanigen each doubled.
The racing will resume on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. with a 12-race card scheduled.

Hat trick for Rockeyed Optimist; another $3M night at Big M

We want our IdaBet players to know that odds-on choice Rockeyed Optimist rolled to the front and never looked back en route to his third consecutive win in Saturday (March 12) night’s $25,000 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadowlands, and handle exceeded $3 million for the 12th time in the last 13 cards at the North Jersey harness track.
In the featured $25,000 Open Handicap Pace, Rockeyed Optimist ($3.60) sprinted off from his five rivals after using the first three-eighths of the mile to work clear, earning his third consecutive win and second at the Open level.  Tim Tetrick spotted the 5-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding second-over on the first turn, tracking Bettor’s Edge (Joe Bongiorno) through a :27.1 quarter before losing cover and subsequently working clear on the backstretch.  Once assuming the lead, Rockeyed Optimist faced no pressure, edging clear off the far turn and powering home in 1:49, using a :26 last quarter burst to evade his foes.  Rockeyed Optimist ultimately prevailed by two lengths over Bettor’s Edge, while Sunfire Blue Chip (John Campbell) stayed on for third from his stalking trip.
Steve Elliott trains the 18-time winner for the partnership of Perretti, Berkner, the A & B Stable, and Battaglia.  For Elliott, it was a sweep of the evening’s featured events, as another trainee of his–Art History ($8.20)–captured the night’s sub-featured $16,000 upper-level conditioned pace earlier in the program.  The 5-year-old Western Ideal gelding sustained a first-over push through the far turn, overtaking 2014 Little Brown Jug winner Limelight Beach in mid-stretch and subsequently staving off a late rally from K-Lees Shakenbake.  Scott Zeron drove 12-time winner Art History to his 1:50 triumph.
Anthony Napolitano led all drivers with a grand slam, teaming up with Honey I’m Home ($2.80, 1:51.4), Hoboken Hanover ($7.40, 1:52.2),...
