Race 1-Trot

Open II

Selections: 1-5-3

I really like the way that this race sets up because there is a lot of speed in the field as a whole. Saying that I have to go with where I see the most improvement in what is a pretty competitive field. #1 Song In My Heart is coming off two decent races after adding trotting hopples. He came first up last time out and only missed by a couple of lengths. Since adding the hopples seems to have really improved and should put in a better effort against this group. #5 Edit has really been on the improve as of late and seems to really get along well with Joe Bongiorno. He has won 2 of his last 3 if you include the DQ on February 15. Post improvement definitely is playing to his favor. #3 Kahoku really has looked sharp during recent weeks. Against this same type of class last out he closed home very gamely, and has raced at Northfield before. The question will be is the field a little tough for him.

From the “Ayers Above” MONDAY EVENING, MARCH 14

Race 1: 3- Kahoku – Could be victorious upon returning to Northfield. 5- Edit – Has been racing well and that trend looks to continue. 1- Song In My Heart – Looks to be tough from the rail. 4- Sand Royal Blu – Should not be overlooked as a potential competitor in here.

Race 2: 1- Spunky Monkey – Draws the inside advantage and that advantage could be key to being successful in here. 6- Idbegoodatthat – Has two wins in a tow and looks to be right there again. 2- Regil Tiger – Moves to the Yoder barn and that has been a positive move for many. 7- In Theory – Could add some value to the exotics.

Race 3: 3- Absolutely Certain – Draws into a race where several could win; this one gets the slight call over the others to start tonight’s Pick 5. 1- Anastasia Whinnie – Could be tough from the rail. 9- Chad – Could add value to the ticket if he can rebound from his most recent dismal efforts.

Race 4: 3- PL Dragon – Was a winner in his most recent effort and could strike again here. 1- Dontu Get Lonely – Drops in class and could be tough from the rail. 5- Tough Love – One of several in here that could make the...

N.Z.’s Blakemore Wins Isle International Amateur – Pompano

For some of you IdaBet.com and Pompano fans, you might be pleased to hear (if you didn’t already watch and wager on this race), New Zealand’s Danny Blakemore captured the title in the first Isle International Amateur Driving Championship, which concluded on Sunday night, March 13, at Pompano Park.
The DVD video store owner scored in his only Sunday night drive in the competition to wind up with 41 points in the competition, pinning the defeat on Dein Spriggs (36 points) while Italy’s Enrico Columbino and Germany’s Michael Gutsche finished in a “dead-heat” for third with 31 points.
The seven race competition, held over the weekend at the south Florida oval, was highly contested and went down to the final race with Blakemore on the sidelines and Spriggs needing a win to snatch the win–but that was not to be this night as Spriggs’ charge finished third in the final event after a cozy pocket the entire mile.
Blakemore drove Benns Score Keeper to a win in the first race on Sunday night–his second victory in the seven race competition–but, that being his fifth drive in the two day event, was on the sidelines “looking in” as each driver in the competition had, at the most, five drives.
Spriggs, scheduled to drive in all three events on this final night, was cut to two drives with the scratch of one of his entrants in the first of three Sunday night events.
Whether that made any difference in the outcome will never be known but he was listed to drive the favorite in the first event but that entrant was scratched due to lameness. By the rules, Spriggs received two points because of the scratch but, as Spriggs said, “you never know whether that made a difference or not.
“The health of the horse is always paramount to the importance of the drive. Since...

IdaBet Players Note: DRESSED IN HERMES TAKES CHARGE LATE AND WINS $75,000 PASADENA STAKES

Because IdaBet.com inquiring minds want to know:

A close third heading into the far turn, favored Dressed in Hermes rallied three-wide turning for home and overhauled pacesetter It’s The Ice a sixteenth of a mile from home en route to a three quarter length win under Mike Smith in Sunday’s $75,000 Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita.  Trained by San Luis Rey Downs-based Janet Armstrong, Dressed in Hermes got a mile over a turf course labeled “good” in 1:37.71.

“We vanned up early yesterday and schooled him in the paddock yesterday afternoon,” said Armstrong.  “We weren’t concerned about the soft turf because he ran a good fifth in the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile Turf, one mile) at Keeneland last fall against some of the best horses in the world.”

A 3-year-old gelding by the Sunday Silence stallion, Hat Trick, Dressed in Hermes was bred in Kentucky by his owner, Budget Stable.  Off at 2-5 in a field of six 3-year-olds, Dressed in Hermes, who was a non-threatening fourth on dirt in the Grade III Robert B. Lewis Stakes Feb. 6, paid $2.80, $2.10 and $2.10.  He now has three wins, all on turf, from seven starts and with the winner’s share of $47,700, his earnings are now $219,300.

“He really is a nice horse to ride,” said Smith.  “He has a little bit of pull, but the kind that you like.  He gives you confidence the whole time.  He’s a big horse so I was able to make my way out from the rail and down the backstretch, I let him stretch his legs out a little and it worked out great.

“He gets a little discombobulated when he switches leads…I think if someone came up to him though, he would have fought back.  I had plenty of horse left.”

Ridden by Santiago Gonzalez, English-bred It’s The Ice was off at 3-1 and paid $2.80 and $2.10.

Sorryaboutnothing sat second until deep stretch and ran gamely for third money under Mario Gutierrez, finishing a neck in front of an on-coming Arcature. ...
