European challengers hoping to finish the Bahrain Turf Series in style

European challengers hoping to finish the Bahrain Turf Series in style

The final two £60,000 Bahrain Turf Series races of the season take place on Friday with a total of 12 European horses lining up across the two races.

There have been three international successes (Lucander, Nomadic Empire and King Of Conquest) in the eight races so far and hopes are high in the George Baker camp that Get It can bookend a successful Turf Series for Baker with victory in Al Sakhir Cup, run over 6f (1,200m).

Get It, who is one of four European challengers in the final sprint of the series, has raced almost exclusively over 5f in his career but Baker is hoping that he can see out the trip and finally get his head in front in Bahrain.

Baker said: “Get It has been a star for us. He was unlucky on his first run in Bahrain and I think he bumped into one in Mobaadel on his most recent start. It was a fantastic run and Andrea was very keen to get back on him on Friday. His work rider, Terry, said he is in great order. We couldn’t be happier with how we have him.”

George Baker, who has had three horses based in Bahrain this season, has already scooped £74,577 in prize money. He added: “They’re pushing £100,000 these horses and we’d struggle to get that at Wolverhampton, Southwell, Lingfield and places like that at this time of year. It’s been a great success. We will be back next year, we’re committed to Bahrain. Our owners have committed to it. We’ve had three horses here this year, if we came back with six or seven next year that would be absolutely wonderful.”

Meanwhile, Hugo Palmer is hopeful of a big run from Box To Box in The Vision 2030 Cup run over 1m 2f (2000m). The son of Kodiac ran a promising race on his Bahraini debut at the start of December but disappointed on his subsequent start. His trainer believes that the break has done him good.

Palmer said: “Despite a wide draw,...

Race 1: Sheng Shui Handicap

12 Shenron gets his chance to try and make all. He steps away favourably from gate one with the apprentice aboard and under no weight he could prove hard to catch. #1 Diamond Soars mixes his form but does break favourably from an inside draw. His consistency holds him in good stead. #8 Tronic Mighty will need to offset the wide gate. He does get Zac Purton up which is a big plus. #6 Shanghai Power narrowly missed three runs ago. He’s in the right vein of form still.

Race 2: Fanling Handicap

6 Baron Zee did well two runs back at Happy Valley. Expect he can return to that form and he’s done enough so far to suggest that he is capable of collecting a first win over this sort of trip. #1 Wonder Years should relish the dip in grade. He’s a course and distance winner who can conserve energy throughout from the draw. #5 Sky Gem is always a threat over this course and distance. Chances are they pull a mid-race move to get him home. Big watch. #4 Loyal Ambition is racing well and will be thereabouts.

Race 3: Tai Po Handicap

2 Faribault was beaten by the gate last time out. He steps...

Race 10: #5 Beauty Eternal, #1 Majestic Colour, #4 Shining Gem, #7 Solar Winds

Race 1: Sutherland Handicap

12 Alloy Star is racing well and he gets his chance again at the bottom of the handicap. He’s nearing his peak and the booking of Karis Teetan is a plus. #7 Aca Power is closing in on a first win. He’s in form and has shown that he is capable of getting on the board. The Hugh Bowman and David Hall combination has been on fire this season. #1 Le Plus Vite is ready to win and should figure strongly off his current rating. #2 To Infinity will improve in this grade. Strong booking of Zac Purton warrants respect.

Race 2: Wing Lok Handicap

12 Splendid Star is on an upward trajectory. He’s turned his form around this term and although he’s drawn wide, he looks well placed to figure with a clean run home and necessary improvement. #2 Flying Mighty makes the dip to Class 5. He’s a course and distance winner who is suited in this grade under Zac Purton. #1 Star Of Yuen Long narrowly missed last start. He can improve following that effort, especially in this grade. #10 Quorum has claims and continues to develop. He’s next...
