We thought you would want to know how the horses are finishing on the 142nd running of the Derby and the great racing action at Churchill today.  Although we regret Churchill’s decision to restrict their signal, we think that this information can be valuable to you down the road with other wager considerations.

The field for the Grade 1, Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands is led by Nyquist, the undefeated (seven-for-seven) Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and champion 2-Year Old. He has done everything asked of him and even though he will be the likely betting favorite, in a 20 horse field he may offer good return for the risk. Exaggerator finished second behind Nyquist in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes in February and two races later exploded on the far turn to win the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, the same race won by 2014 Derby winner California Chrome and 2012 Derby winner I’ll Have Another. They are joined by the other major Derby prep winners in Grade 1 Arkansas Derby winner

Ironicus makes triumphant return in Fort Marcy
By Brian Bohl
BELMONT, N.Y. – Ironicus stalked the pace and rallied down the stretch to record a 1 ½-length win in Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Fort Marcy for 4-year-olds and up on the inner turf at Belmont Park.
The Stuart S. Janney III-owned gray colt bested Smooth Daddy, who was 15-1 on the morning line but strong out of the gate and game until the end. Ironicus hit the wire in 1:50.82 for 1 1/8 miles to pace a field of seven. Ironicus, making his 2016 debut, registered his sixth career victory in 12 starts.
“[It was a] perfect trip,” winning jockey Jose Ortiz said. “He broke good. I was three-wide the whole race but I didn’t want to get behind horses and fight him. Coming in, I thought he was the best horse and he proved it. I’m thankful to Shug and Mr. Janney for the opportunity. They bought him in fit for his comeback and everyone in the barn did a good job getting him ready and it showed today.”
Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey saw Ironicus return in impressive fashion following a layoff to recover from a minor fracture in his right fore cannon bone. Ironicus, who last started in September 2015 in the Grade 2, $250,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap, now has won three of four graded stakes races, with one second-place showing to improve his career earnings to $663,615.
“We had him really going in the right direction last year, and then he hurt himself, which happens,” McGaughey said of Ironicus, who returned $3.80 for a $2 win wager. “But we’re glad to have him...

Nyquist Keeps His Record Unblemished – Wins The Derby

We are sure it is extremely unlikely that you haven’t heard or didn’t watch the race live but to cover all bases and have an historical accounting of today’s 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby we offer you the summary below:

The undefeated, Breeders’ Cup and Eclipse Award-winning 3-year-old colt Nyquist keeps his record unblemished in the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby, holding off a late challenge by Exaggerator to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Trainer Doug O’Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez teamed up with Reddam to win the 2012 version with I’ll Have Another, and today captured the 10 furlongs over a fast main track under the Twin Spires in 2:01.31 with the son of Uncle Mo.

Nyquist broke well from the 13-post along with Gun Runner and Danzing Candy. Those three strode toward the wire for the first time in unison, with Danzing Candy making the lead just before the clubhouse turn. As he’d done in the Santa Anita Derby, Danzing Candy laid out a rapid first quarter of :22.58, rounding the first bend in front of the field. Nyquist settled just behind that leader a few paths off the rail, while Gun Runner took up the inside post just behind those two. They were immediately followed by Outwork, Tom’s Ready, and Exaggerator, the latter racing a bit closer to the pace today in 15th than he had in the Santa Anita Derby.

Danzing Candy reached the half-mile mark in :45.72 while three lengths in front of Nyquist, who appeared to be moving comfortably under Gutierrez. Gun Runner was a bit impatient in between horses, tugging on Florent Geroux, as a bulk of the field was pressed up just behind him. Uncharacteristically, Mohaymen was traveling well off the early pace in 12th. Through three-quarters in 1:10.40, Danzing Candy’s lead had begun to recede as Gun Runner extended his stride along the rail....
