AUBURN, Wash. (May 1, 2016) – Queen’s Rush sprinted to an early lead and rolled to a convincing 3 ¼ -length victory Sunday in the $15,200 feature race for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.
Ridden by Erick Lopez, Queen’s Rush ran six furlongs in 1:09.81 and paid $3.80, $3.40 and $2.60.The winning connections—trainer Len Kasmerski and owner Roz Barclay—improved to 6-for-11 at the meet, and already have two of the meet’s four double winners: Native Causeway and Queen’s Rush.
A 4-year-old Louisiana-bred by Old Fashioned, Queen’s Rush set fractions of :22.35, :45.46 and :57.47 en route to victory. Her overall record is 2-0-2 in five starts with earnings of $20,920, including $8,360 for Sunday’s victory.
Mylast Sweet Pea, ridden by Leslie Mawing, rallied for second place and paid $5 and $3.20, and Our Silver Lining, ridden by Jorge Rosales, finished third and paid $3.60.
Let It Flo, Alpine Heir, Sunshine Serenade and Mystic appeal completed the order of finish.
GOLD RUSH DANCER PREVAILS IN SILKY SULLIVAN!
Gold Rush Dancer took to the turf like a champion Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.The 2015 Gottstein Futurity winner—owned and bred by John Parker of Tacoma—raced to a $19.80 upset over 4-5 favorite Tough It Out in the $100,000 Silky Sullivan Stakes for 3-year-old California-breds.
Ridden by Flavien Prat for trainer Vann Belvoir, Gold Rush Dancer ran one-mile on firm turf in 1:37.07, finishing 1-¼ lengths clear of Tough It Out.
Prat said Gold Rush Dancer momentarily struggled while trying to settle on the backstretch but added, “When I asked him, he was gone.”
By Private Gold-Dances On Water, Gold Rush Dancer is 3-3-2 in 10 lifetime starts with earnings of $184,423. He raced five times as a 2-year-old at Emerald Downs, racking up three stakes placings before scoring a 5 ½-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile Gottstein Futurity.
Parker also had a great win at Emerald Downs Sunday as Dare Me Devil ($7.60) rallied for a sharp victory over $15,000 claimers in 1:08.56 for six furlongs. It was career win No. 17 for the 8-year-old gelding, claimed two weeks ago by Parker and trainer Candi Tollett.
NOTES: Lopez, Jose Zunino and Javier Matias rode two winners each Sunday. . .With four weeks in the books, Leslie Mawing leads Rocco Bowen 14-13 in the jockeys’ standings. . .Bh Lisas Boy($2.60) resumed his winning ways in Sunday’s opener for Quarter Horses, running 350 yards in :17.82 under Matias for owner/trainer Bill Hoburg of Kennewick, Wash. A 4-year-old Idaho-bred gelding, Bh Lisas Boy is 9-2-0 in 14 career starts—4-for-4 at Emerald Downs—with earnings of $100,246. . .11-year-old Vodka With Ice, fourth in the Sunday opener, capped a sterling 65-race career that included 15 wins and $430,364 in earnings. In 2013, the Texas-bred gelding captured the $60,000 Bank of America Emerald Championship at Emerald Downs before scoring a 17-1 upset in the $350,000 AQHA Championship Challenge at Los Alamitos. . .Trainer Blaine Wright continues to sizzle with two more wins Sunday and leads the trainers’ standings with an 8-1-1 record in 13 starts (61.5%). Wright clicked with first-time starter Elusive Riches ($24.60) for owners John & Janene Maryanski, and Italian Warrior ($3.20) for Luigi DiPietro and Diana DiPietro. . .Jockey Jorge Rosales picked up his first win of the meet aboard Justita ($9) in Sunday’s fourth race. Rosales’ agent and wife is former rider Eliska Kubinova. . .Also in the fourth, For Pity’s Sake finished second at 41-1 and paid a meet-high $37.20 to place. . . Trainer Mike Puhich has wins on four straight cards including a victory by Dirty Swagg ($5.60) in Sunday’s seventh race. . .Live racing resumes Friday with first post 6:30 p.m. . .Emerald Downs is open for simulcast wagering daily (Mondays & Tuesdays in the Quarter Chute Café).
