Yonkers Peek At Program- Friday, May 4th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet.com players:

4TH RACE – (3) ANDY RAY returns to town after two small-checks efforts against Philly’s best. Drilled this class last time he saw it, inner duo tough, though.

5TH RACE – (4) MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING tried it first-up from same venue mid-last month. Hung in there well and may end up taking similar path once again.

6TH RACE – (6) DELIGHTFUL DRAGON slapped around high-conditioned foes in latest. Earns shot against adult ladies, be price against some ‘tough broads.’

7TH RACE – (2) GINA GRACE N gets way too much class and post relief to ignore. Paid her way through B-C Matchmaker and figures low-hanging fruit here.

8TH RACE – (2) FREAKONOMICS was four-eyeballed week ago in distaff derby, took no support and raced accordingly. Slips down comp. level, so we stay.

10TH RACE – (5) ONE TO DRAW TO returns to max level of competence, though he’s a seasonal 1-fer. Catches a field with many question marks, perhaps.

——

$2 +/- (thru Tue., May 1) – 112 wins ($975.60)

from 516 ($1,032) selex (-$56.40, looks somewhat better after some juleps)

highest-priced winner –   INSPIRATION VIEW ($36.60)

lowest-priced winner – NATIONAL SEELSTER ($2.50)

Holiday Disguise Looks To Add G2 Ruffian To Resumé

Lady Sheila Stable’s Grade 3 Distaff Handicap winner Holiday Disguise will try to go two in a row in a field of six in the Grade 2, $250,000 Ruffian on Sunday at Belmont Park.

The Harlan’s Holiday filly returned from an eight-month layoff in February to kick off her 4-year-old season with a 3 ¼-length win in the one-mile Biogio’s Rose for New York-breds at Aqueduct Racetrack. Following that effort, she faced open company for the first time in the Heavenly Prize, also at a mile, where she raced wide throughout to finish second to Divine Miss Grey.

Holiday Disguise turned the tables in the seven-furlong Distaff on April 6 at the Big A, turning for home five wide and digging in to win by a length. It was her fifth career victory from seven starts for trainer Linda Rice.

“She ran a big race in the Distaff, and we’re going to try her at the mile once again,” said Rice. “I thought possibly seven-eighths would be her best distance, but she deserves another chance at the mile. We’re excited about her this weekend. She won off a long layoff going a mile [in the Biogio’s Rose] and in the Heavenly Prize, there was no pace in the race, so I’m hoping there’s more pace this time. But, if not, we’ll just be a little closer.”

Holiday Disguise, a half-sister to 3-year-old multiple stakes winner Midnight Disguise, will break from post 2 with Jose Ortiz aboard.

Also making a bid in the Ruffian is Unchained Melody, making her first start since the Grade 1 Alabama in August at Saratoga Race Course, where she was pulled up after the half-mile pole and vanned off following the race.

“We gave her some time after the Alabama,” said trainer Brian Lynch. “Clinically, nothing clear ever really showed up after the race, but we wanted to give her some time off, so she got 90 days at Hidden Brook South in Florida. She came back in to us in January or so...

Yonkers Peek At Program- Thursday, May 3rd

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players:

3RD RACE – (3) PEMBROKE WILDCAT has been useful enough this level, primarily from off pace. Couldn’t reach from outer venues last couple, so perhaps.

5TH RACE – (2) MACHTU N tried it with a wide move last Saturday night, flattening out in lane. Sees very competitive set of rivals here, tepid endorsement.

6TH RACE – (2) CELIA CANTABA has been nodded more than once in this missive, racing decently enough despite no early foot. Post relief now, so we stay.

7TH RACE – (3) FROG POND PRINCESS rarely sees inner half of gate and comes off no-shot from eight-hole, Did beat lesser two back, may be good enough.

8TH RACE – (3) TORRID BROMAC N did need more from second-up this past Saturday. Effort not bad, though, and now opposes weaker foes in same class.

10TH RACE – (5) BUNGALOW BILL N is a seasonal 0-fer, and last week’s hang job when ‘peeked’ was latest example. Cheesed us off then and owes us now.
