From the Ayers Above – Feb 20th

Race 1: 4- Widemere Maggie – Draws into a race where several could win; this one gets the slight call over the others to take tonight’s opener. 1- KJ’s Foxy Lady – Could be tough from the rail. 5- African Violet – Was a winner last time out but faces tougher competition this time around. 7- Upland Hanover – Could add value to the exotics.

Race 2: 1- TT’s Little Lass – Was a winner two starts back and could strike again tonight. 3- Hillary’s Style – Drops in class and could be tough in here. 5- Nuck Phil – Has been racing well and that rend looks to continue. 2- Puddle Jumper – Draws better tonight and could be in the thick of the action.

Race 3: 4- Kayleigh’s Future – Made the ticket in both of her most recent races; could step up and lead that ticket tonight. 1- Esteemed Members – Looks to do well from the rail. 5- Polly Flower – One of several in here that could make the ticket.

Race 4: 1- A Dandy Bryer – Draws the inside advantage and that could be key to being successful tonight. 9- Dear Caterina – Should get a good trip from the second tier. 7- Fly Me Courageous – Could do well upon coming to Northfield. 6- Sunrise Sunset – Has as good of a shot as any in here to complete the Superfecta.

Race 5: 4- Fox Valley Smooch – Draws into a race...

Jug Winner Kicks Off Big M 5Yr Season – Get Free Gear IdaBet.com

IdaBet.com horseplayers should know that Limelight Beach, the 2014 Little Brown Jug winner, will make his seasonal debut in Saturday’s (February 20) featured event at The Meadowlands after last week’s races–and his expected return to the track–were postponed due to extreme cold.  The 5-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere and Benear tackles seven others in the $20,000 upper-level pace, and has been installed as the 3-1 morning line second choice in the evening’s eighth of 14 races.  Play the Meadowlands and win Free Gear Exclusively at IdaBet.com!

As a 4-year-old, Limelight Beach only managed a pair of wins in 21 starts.  Nonetheless, he maintained a string of minor placings in stakes events through North America, including a second-place finish in the Prix d’́Été at Hippodrome 3R and a third-place finish in the Canadian Pacing Derby at Mohawk.  Yannick Gingras is reunited with the Ron Burke trainee, and the pair start from post 8.  Among the other top contenders are 5-2 morning line favorite Rockeyed Optimist (post 7, Tim Tetrick), who was just outkicked in his seasonal debut last two weeks ago, and Ashley’s Husband (post 2, Brett Miller), whose ferocious :25.4 last quarter propelled him to victory in the top pacing event that same night.

A pair of sub-featured $13,000 conditioned paces make up half of the late Pick 4 sequence, with third-level fields contesting the ninth and eleventh races.  In the ninth event, Mark Capone trainee Kingofthejungle (post 9, Andy Miller) seeks to make amends after facing top-level competition, but will square off against Meadows invader Some Kinda Beach (post 2, Jim Marohn, Jr.) and Yonkers shipper UF Rockin Dragon (post 6, Tetrick), both of which step down from tougher competition as well.  The eleventh race is equally competitive, given the consistent success of Cobalt Man (post 1, Tetrick) and Dune Dude (post 5,...

NYQUIST GOING TO FLORIDA, EXAGGERATOR STAYS HOME

Exaggerator image001 (10)

Keenly competitive on the track, both Doug O’Neill and Keith Desormeaux were uncommonly gracious and magnanimous after O’Neill’s unbeaten champion two-year-old colt of 2015 Nyquist defeated the Desormeaux-trained Exaggerator in Monday’s San Vicente Stakes.

Good sportsmanship aside, now each three-year-old is headed in a different direction on the Triple Crown trail.

“Goodness gracious,” Desormeaux said after Nyquist held off Exaggerator by a length and a half as the 2-5 favorite in the $200,000 San Vicente at seven furlongs. “Anybody not a believer in Nyquist now, that was an awesome race.

“To set those kinds of fractions and still finish in close to track record time for a three-year-old in February. Wow! Hats off to Nyquist.”

Free Gear At IdaBet.com; Crosbys Clam Bake upsets in Big M Open Trot; 11 favorites defeated

IdaBet.com horseplayers should know that if you play the Meadowlands and win Free Gear Exclusively at IdaBet.com!

Recent harness racing programs at The Meadowlands have been full of upsets, and Friday (February 19) evening’s 14-race card was no different.  Only three favorites proved victorious, and of the 11 non-favorites to prevail, Crosbys Clam Bake ($19.20) kicked clear authoritatively in the night’s featured $25,000 Open Handicap Trot–his second such win of the meet.
Competitive racing and healthy dividends–including a $12,520 trifecta headed by 19-1 outsider Montalbano Bi in race five–incentivized punters to wager a total of $3,201,415 on Friday (February 19) evening’s harness racing program at The Meadowlands, marking a sixth straight card with over $3 million in all-sources handle.

In the night’s featured event, Crosbys Clam Bake ($19.20) emerged out of traffic in mid-stretch, going away to a 2-1/4 length victory in 1:53.2.  The 6-year-old Kadabra gelding was hemmed in at the pegs by first-over challenger Opulent Yankee (Andy Miller) on the far turn as lukewarm 3-1 favorite B Yoyo (Joe Bongiorno) controlled the terms, only finding room in the final 150 yards as he wedged between the laboring pacesetter and a one-paced Uva Hanover (Tim Tetrick) before kicking clear.  Can Do (Anthony Napolitano) mounted a stand-side rally to take second, while Rock of Cashel (Brett Miller)–the middle cog in a chain reaction which forced Cash Me Out off stride–rallied off cover to take third after forced to check by Opulent Yankee just...

HAMBURG, N.Y. — It’s a good thing Buffalo Raceway’s $10,000 Open Trot is raced at an even mile because an inch longer, the result probably would have been different for the front-running Lutetium on Friday evening (Feb. 19).
Leading nearly every step of the way, Lutetium (Truman Gale) found the wire just in the nick of time to hold off the hard-charging Cold Certified (Shawn McDonough) by a nose in 2:01.0 over the sloppy track.
Lutetium ($4.60) managed to open up a 12-length advantage over Cold Certified who sat fifth after the first quarter mile. He needed every bit of that as Cold Certified, the winner of the past two Open trots, made steady forward progress through the final three panels.
In the drive to the wire, Lutetium was begging for the wire while Cold Certified launched a vicious rally in deep stretch only to come up a nostril short. Northern Bullet (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) was a mere neck behind in the blanket finish.
Owned by Colleen Girdlestone and trained by Mark Laidlaw, Lutetium (Credit Winner-Luby) has posted two victories in six seasonal starts, earning $14,750 in 2016. The 9-year-old gelding has bankrolled $371,367 lifetime.
Ronnie Wrenn Jr. tripled in his first appearance of the season at Buffalo Raceway while Jack Flanigen and Drew Monti each scored a pair of victories....
