With favored Treasuring begging for racing room at the rail, lightly raced Everqueen, under Joe Talamo, shot clear a furlong out and took Friday’s $58,000 Santa Anita allowance feature by 2 ½ lengths, as the 3-year-old filly by Colonel John got six furlongs in 1:09.34.

Breaking from post position four in a field of seven 3-year-old fillies, Everqueen showed good early speed as she sat a close second just to the outside of longshot Princess Katie around the far turn before opening up on her competition.

Off at 5-1, she paid $12.60, $4.60 and $3.60.  Trained by Ron Ellis and owned by McShane Racing, LLC, Everqueen was an impressive maiden $75,000 claiming winner here on Jan. 24 and was making her fourth start today.  With the winner’s share of $34,800, she increased her earnings to $59,410.

Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Victor Espinoza, Treasuring, who came off a close fourth place finish in the Grade II, 6 ½ furlong Santa Ynez Stakes Jan. 2, was full of run at the rail but by the time she was able to split horses a furlong out, the winner had all the momentum and she had to settle for second money.  Off at 4-5 in her seventh career start, Treasuring paid $2.80 and $2.40.

Ridden by Santiago Gonzalez, Asian’s Way raced just to the outside of the favorite around the turn and despite getting first run on her, she proved third best.  Off at 9-2, Asian’s Way paid $3.20 to show.

Turfway Park Picks – February 20

Good luck at the races and have a great weekend everyone and thanks for choosing IdaBet.com!

Turfway Park Bret Battaglia Picks for Saturday, Feb 20th

Race 1

CHIEF BLANCO tries sprinting for the first time after a third place finish as this same level on the drop in class in his last starts. Give him a slight edge to pick up the maiden win here. FORGE SIGNATURE has been third in two of his three lifetime starts and looks like the one to beat here. NOTMUCHTOLOOKAT didn’t fire last time out, but is capable of better.

Race 2

GREY BALLS OF FIRE ran a nice second last time out in his first start over the track and looks best here on the drop in class. WROUGHT was no match for the winner in his first start here at Turfway. He figures to move forward off of that one and definitely looks capable of running well here. STRONGBOX has a chance.

Race 3

SONOF A MONSTERCAT was second going longer at this same level last time out and should appreciate the move back to sprinting tonight, give him the edge here. IRUSAN drops in class after a few even efforts over the track and would be no surprise here. TIMELY PURSUIT didn’t show much last time out, but was running well before that one.

Race 4

NOCHE AZUL ran a solid race at long odds coming back from a layoff in his last starts. Any improvement off of that effort could make him dangerous here. M K’S DELIGHT has been in the money in nearly half of his lifetime starts and is a contender. PEQUOT drops in class in his first start since May.

Race 5

NIFTY FIFTY has been running well since moving to Turfway, with two wins and a second place finish in his last three starts. He beat the likely favorite in his last start...

RACE 1

3 Streaking Enough is dropped in for a tag for his 5th of the meet … maybe he’ll go better at this level. 2 Dc Dashing Bono picks up leading rider Omar Reyes … and he cuts back in distance for his 3rd out. 5 Strait Flight runs in a claimer for only the second time in her life … she’ll need to find staying power.

RACE 2

5 Bravadan stretches out to 550 yards for his 4th of the season … he was a beaten fave in his last out. 1 Wrangler To Be goes from the outside to the inside … he’s a contender if he can deal with the post. 8 Staccato Mambo couldn’t handle $5K foes going 660 yards … he may be limited to a minor award.

RACE 3

2 Ahs Goodnews Annalee flew late when 3rd at 1-2 in a trial heat … her connex know how to win ‘em. 7 Eyehaveasecret runs for a tag after failing against allowance foes … maybe she can bounce back. 4 Rags Ta Cash is winless in three tries here at NW2/L … she hasn’t improved since her maiden win.

RACE 4

5 First Down Swinger gets a rider change to Omar Reyes … she won 2 straight last year down in LA. 8 Iba Wagon lost...

THREE-YEAR-OLDS PREP FOR SAN FELIPE STAKES

Danzing Candy and Uncle Lino, two contenders for the Grade II, $400,000 San Felipe Stakes for three-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on March 12, worked on Santa Anita’s fast main track Saturday for the race, a major steppingstone to the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 9.

Danzing Candy went five furlongs in 1:00.20, while Uncle Lino went four furlongs in 47.80 with Fernando Perez up for trainer Gary Sherlock. Danzing Candy won an allowance race at one mile by nearly six lengths on Feb. 4.

“It was a perfect work,” said Cliff Sise Jr., trainer of Danzing Candy, a son of Twirling Candy. “He just galloped. Mike was very happy with him.”

Sise was speaking of jockey Mike Smith, who has the mount in the San Felipe, which will be run for...
