Strategic Dreams gets perfect trip in Ruthless

Sent off as the 4-5 post time favorite, Strategic Dreams came from off the pace to capture the $100,000 Ruthless for 3-year-old fillies on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Breaking from post position 6 over a sloppy and sealed main track with Manny Franco aboard, Strategic Dreams was last early in the field of six. Danyelli and Paranoia battled up front with the former setting fractions of 22.90 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.93 for the half.
Strategic Dreams began to make her winning move at the three-eighths pole, Strategic Dreams was guided four-wide wide and sweeping to the front at the quarter pole. Brushing away a challenge from Blushing Justine in the upper stretch, Strategic Dreams extended away to the wire 3 ½ lengths in front.
She completed the seven-furlong distance in a final time of 1:27.02.
“I followed the instructions,” said Franco. “Rudy told me don’t be too aggressive early, just let her settle, and that’s what we did. And then she came running when I asked her.”

“I think she is a nice filly,” he added. “She has a good future. I am so thankful they give me the opportunity to ride her. And we got it done. [Rudy] told me she will run on anything. Anywhere.”

Returning $3.90 for a $2 win wager, the Archarcharch filly earned her first stakes victory in her sixth career start boosting her career earnings to $180,200 for owners Pick Six Racing, Ian Behar and Theresa Cotron.
“She is a versatile filly and lets you do what you want,” said winning trainer Rudy Rodriguez. “She can go on the lead, she can take it back, nothing matters to her. She keeps grinding and just does the job.”
Following Blushing Justine in second was Danyelli, Paranoia, Wall of Compassion and Dream Fever.

FAVORIED CALCULATOR REMAINS UNBEATEN DOWN SANTA ANITA’S HILLSIDE TURF AS HE WINS $75,000 CLOCKERS’ CORNER STAKES

Jan 29, 2018

FAVORED CALCULATOR REMAINS UNBEATEN DOWN SANTA ANITA’S HILLSIDE TURF AS HE WINS $75,000 CLOCKERS’ CORNER STAKES BY ONE LENGTH UNDER PRAT; TRAINED BY MILLER, HE GETS 6 ½ FURLONGS IN 1:12.08

In complete command throughout, Richard C. Pell’s Calculator marched to an impressive one length victory in Sunday’s $75,000 Clockers’ Corner Stakes at Santa Anita.  Ridden by Flavien Prat and trained by Peter Miller, the 6-year-old Florida-bred horse by In Summation remained unbeaten in three starts down Santa Anita’s hillside turf course as he got the distance in 1:12.08.

Breaking from post position two, Prat made the decision to out-foot longshot Jimmy Bouncer for the early lead and it proved the right move as Calculator was never challenged thereafter.

“He broke really good and I just decided to make the lead,” said Prat, who was aboard Calculator for the first time today.  “I knew the fractions were fast but he was comfortable…He was the best horse.”

Off as the 4-5 favorite in a field of six older horses, Calculator, who was a close fourth on the main track in the Grade III, six furlong Midnight Lute Stakes Dec. 30, paid $3.80, $2.60 and $2.10.

“I thought he ran huge,” said Miller’s assistant, Ruben Alvarado.  “He’s more mature now and we’re looking for big year with him.”

A winner of the Grade III Sham Stakes here at age three, Calculator is now 20-5-5-4.  With the winner’s share of $46,080, he now has earnings of $642,560.

“Flavien’s a great rider, but he didn’t follow instructions at all,” joked the winning owner, Pell.  “We thought the one (Fly to Mars, with Evin Roman) would go and we’d track him, but it didn’t work out that way.”

Fly to Mars, who is also trained by Miller, put in a good rail run late, but was second best, finishing...

The Pick 5 is a 50-cent base wager comprising races 6 through 10 (for these 10-race cards, ordinarily it’s races 7 through 11). Yonkers Peek At Program- Monday, January 29th

Some insights into tonight’s racing program for our IdaBet players:

1ST RACE – (1) COCO CHANEL has to be more formidable than what she was from pole in local debut, when she was out a month. Wins draw again, so nod.

3RD RACE – (7) ALRIGHT GUY was gazed upon in seasonal debut, but was driven quite passively despite getting support.  Moves outside tonite, so let us see.

5TH RACE – (2) D G’S ELSA was a longshot ‘peek’ in latest, trying to leave before retreating. Sort of have to gaze her way again with significant venue relief.

8TH RACE – (7) CLASSY CHAPEL N had a very credible North American debut, getting support while chasing home logical foe. Taken to overcome impost.

9TH RACE – (1) THE WALL builds off last week’s decent effort with some serious post relief, much tighter this time around. Won’t see last out odds, though.

10TH RACE – (4) CAVIART CHERIE actually double-bumps up restricted ladder in search of third consecutive win. Beaten up lesser, albeit with facile trips.

——

$2 +/- (thru Tue., Jan. 23) – 17 wins ($199.90)

from 80 ($160) selex (+$39.90, and no fuzzy math)

highest-priced winner – MORE THAN MANY ($21.80)

lowest-priced winner – HOT DEUCE ($4.20)
