Turfway Park – Friday, March 18th

Please note that, because of possible late changes, numbers shown here may NOT correspond with program numbers. When wagering, always use the horse’s number listed in your official track program.

Race 1

TAMIAMI TRAIL comes in off of two second place finishes over the track and is the choice to pick up the win here. BUMBLE BIZZ showed a great deal of improvement winning in her first start over the track. UNFAITHFUL had to need her last after having been off for nearly a year and should move forward off of that one.

Race 2

TRICE UP has been in good form recently, with two wins and a second place finish in his last four starts at Turfway. He figures to be on or near the lead tonight, give him a slight edge here with Ouzts picking up the mount. MAGNETIC START has won two of his last here and looks like the one to beat. NIGHT LEAGUE moves back down to the level where he crossed the wire first in two in a row earlier this meet.

Race 3

HUNDREDS ran a nice second on the drop in class last time out, give him a slight edge against a wide-open maiden field. RUMLAD is a first time starter for Wesley Ward who has been training steadily here at Turfway leading up to tonight. HUGHHOOFNER likes to run second, but has the ability to win here.

Race 4

CAUSE I’M ALEX has looked sharp winning each of his last two starts over the track and will be tough to beat again tonight. BOOMER SIX was second behind the top pick two starts back and...

Great Scott! Zeron wins four at Meadowlands

Hey IdaBet players, in the words of Hall of Fame racecaller Sam McKee on Friday (March 18) night at The Meadowlands, “you can only hope to contain him.”  McKee was speaking of driver Scott Zeron, who captured four races on the 12-race card.  Total betting turnover on the program exceeded $3 million for the fourth consecutive live racing night, and for the 13th time in the last 14 cards.
Despite two fewer races in comparison to many of the February cards, total handle for the night’s program was $3,059,381, averaging out to be just over a quarter million dollars per race.  On- and off-track handle alike showed significant increases over those of a snow-laden card on the corresponding Friday of March 2015.
The 26-year-old Zeron wasted no time in registering his grand slam, teaming up with the yet-undefeated Ava N Ella ($2.10) in the evening’s second race for a 1:53.2 going-away win, the fourth in the Tony O’Sullivan trainee’s career.  The Montréal native continued with a 1:54 triumph aboard Jonas Czernyson trainee Lauderdale ($6.00) in the sixth event before wins with Not Before Eight ($4.80) and Exquisite Glide ($7.60) in the eighth and tenth races, respectively.

The featured $12,500 fourth-level trot saw World Cup ($3.80) take full advantage of a third-over trip, rallying off cover to just prevail while odds-on.  Joe Bongiorno pointed the 7-year-old Yankee Glide entire into the outer flow as Magenta Man (Andy Miller) engaged Its Payday Friday (John Campbell) in a middle-half duel.  The two battled through a three-quarter split of 1:25.3, and after cornering 29-1 longshot Watkins (Jim Marohn, Jr.)...

Ali De Vie Third Straight At Buffalo

We want you to know Ali De Vie sure must like the work of Buffalo Raceway track photographer Steve Roth.

For the third straight Friday night, Ali De Vie (Jim Morrill Jr.) posed for pictures in the winner’s circle for Roth by taking the $9,000 featured trot in a seasonal best 1:58.1 over the good track.
And while Ali De Vie ($8.30) isn’t camera shy, he’s not afraid of taking on stiffer competition each week either. He’s stepped up in class the past three starts and showed that he’s capable of handling the tougher tasks.
As expected, the speed ball Lutetium (Ron Beback Jr.) zoomed to the top from the outside. Ali De Vie managed to find a seat in fourth as Lutetium posted panels of 28.4, 58.3 and 1:28.2.
Starting a first over trip just past the half-mile marker, Ali De Vie steadily began to slice into the lead of Lutetium and nudged ahead in mid stretch to pull away for a half length win. Lutetium was a stubborn second while Carbon Footprint (Drew Monti) picked up the third place check.
In was the fourth win of the season for Ali De Vie (Conway Hall-Excusez Moi). The 6-year-old gelding has put $13,706 in the bank in 2016 and $105,944 lifetime. He is owned and trained by Marc Shuttleworth.
Morrill Jr. finished the evening with four victories while Todd Cummings added a double.
Racing will continue on Saturday night at 6 p.m. with an 11-race card scheduled.
