in $500,000 Central Bank Ashland

LEXINGTON, KY (April 9, 2016) – Ashbrook Farm’s Weep No More rallied from far off the pace to win Saturday’s 79th running of the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) for 3-year-old fillies by a neck over Rachel’s Valentina, with previously undefeated favorite Cathryn Sophia another neck back in third.

Trained by Rusty Arnold and ridden by Corey Lanerie, Weep No More covered the 1 1/16 miles on a fast main track in 1:43.57. The victory was worth $300,000 and increased Weep No More’s earnings to $342,269 with a record of 4-3-0-0.

It was the second victory in the race for Arnold, who saddled Karlovy Vary to win the 2012 running and also the second for Lanerie, who won on Hooh Why in 2009.

Weep No More, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Mineshaft out of the Storm Cat mare Crosswinds and a Keeneland sales graduate (click here for footage of her in the sales ring during the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale), also locked up a spot in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 6 at Churchill Downs by earning 100 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks. The top 14 point earners that pass the entry box for the Oaks will make up the field for the 1 1/8-mile race.

The Oaks is limited to the top 14 point-earners that pass the entry box. Weep No More’s Oaks points were the first she has earned. Rachel’s Valentina picked up 40 points to boost her total to 48,...

Quotes For The Keeneland $200,000 Shakertown (G2)

For our IdaBet.com players:

Quotes for the $200,000 Shakertown (G2)

Wesley Ward (winning trainer of Undrafted)

“He’s a really neat little horse and he loves it here at Keeneland. Before his races, he gets all charged up, no matter where he is. Kind of like his owner (co-owner Wes Welker): a little guy, but tough. Last winter, we came into this race (in 2015, when he finished third) a little compromised by the weather, as he stayed here all winter. This year, it was a really good winter and we never missed a work. He was ready to go.”

Joe Bravo (winning rider)

“(Undrafted) knows what he’s doing. The best thing for me to do is stay out of his way. Wesley gave me one instruction: Get him out and clear. That’s all we had to do. He just exploded turning for home. It’s pretty fun when you have a horse jump underneath you like that. He makes everyone around him look good.”

Shaun Bridgmohan (rider of runner-up Something Extra)

“I thought I was in the garden spot. He hung in pretty good. He’s a hard-trying horse. He gave me everything he had.”

Jose Lezcano (rider of third-place finisher Commute)

“The race went very fast, but I had a good trip. Saved ground when I could. When I tipped him out, he came with a run, but the two horses that finished in front of us are two nice horses. My horse gave me his race like I expected him to.”

Javier Castellano (rider of fourth-place finisher Summation Time)

“They drew off a little bit at the top of the stretch, and I tried to follow the horse I knew was going to come back quick, but when the horse was coming back he wasn’t straight, so I had to check my horse’s momentum before I could go forward. I think I lost the race at the top of the stretch.”

Julien Leparoux (rider of beaten favorite...

Keeneland Quotes For The $300k Madison G1

Quotes for the $300,000 Madison (G1)

David Fawkes (winning trainer of Sheer Drama)

“I talked to (Keeneland Racing Secretary) Ben (Huffman) about this race early in the year, and thought it might be a good starting spot. Never expected it to come up this tough. But she ran her race – she brought her A game. She worked so good last week, I thought she could do anything (in this race).”

Joe Bravo (winning rider, who scored his second consecutive victory following the Shakertown-G2)

“This filly did a lot of great things last year, won some Grade 1s, and this was her first race back. (Trainer) Dave (Fawkes) and I spent all week looking at it and saying, ‘Wow. These are some of the best fillies in the country.’ What she did today – you gotta just love her. She has so much heart. (Trainer Todd) Pletcher’s horse (Stopchargingmaria) came to us at the top of the lane, and she passed us. (When a horse trained by) Todd goes by you, you think, ‘Oh right.’ But Sheer Drama said, ‘None of that.’ She gutted it out and outran her down the lane.”

Javier Castellano (rider of runner-up Stopchargingmaria)

“The outside post didn’t help her much, and I had to go wide a little bit. That might have cost me the race but it’s something you just gotta deal with. You have to go through it and hope for much the best. She ran such a good race. I’m not disappointed at all. I’m so happy and satisfied with what she did today. Just second-best today.”

Drayden Van Dyke (rider of fourth-place finisher Birdatthewire)

“It was a perfect trip. She ran her race, and I think it was just speed-favoring today. She handled the track perfect.”

For 80 years, the Keeneland Association has devoted itself to the health and vibrancy of the Thoroughbred industry. As the...
